Indiana, however didn't go down without a fight, putting Michigan to the test as four Hoosiers collected goals. Attacker Tina Doherty grabbed four of the team's eight, Izzy Mandema put up another two and Carlie Crumbaugh and Gillian Gatecliff add one more apiece.
On the defensive end, the Hoosiers swiped six steals from the Wolverines while drawing out another six exclusions. Goalkeeper Sarah Greeven grabbed eight saves during her time in the net for a season high of 85. Greeven now ranks No. 6 in the MPSF top-10 for goalkeeper saves.
Newcomer of the Week
In the week following the game against Michigan, freshman Tina Doherty received Indiana's first ever MPSF Newcomer of the Week award for her outstanding efforts against the Wolverines.
Doherty led the Hoosiers in scoring with her fifth four-plus goal game this year. She is one of four Hoosiers to collect four or more goals in a single game and the only Hoosier to score four-plus goals more than twice this season.
To go along with her offensive efforts, Doherty also grabbed three steals as well as a field block against Michigan. Doherty continues to lead the Hoosiers in steals with a season high of 24 as well as scoring with 35 goals.
Scouting the Spartans
San Jose St. comes off a two-game losing streak after falling short to No. 3 UCLA this past weekend. The Spartans hold a 9-12 overall record with a 1-3 record in MPSF conference play.
Three Spartans have collected 30-plus goals this season with freshman Olga Descalzi Portell leading the way with 48 goals, 10 assists, 15 steals and three field blocks.
Scouting the Bears
The Bears enter this weekend's matchup with a 13-5 overall record and 1-2 conference record in the MPSF.
California junior Emma Wright holds the second highest scoring record in the MPSF conference this season collecting 2.86 goals per game, while leading the Bears in scoring with 41 goals.
Indiana's game against Cal will mark their second meeting of the 2019 season. The two first battled one another back in February at this year's Stanford Invite. Indiana put up a tough fight, but fell short with a 15-7 final score. The Hoosiers look to redeem themselves as they take on the Bears in their final top-25 game of the regular season.
All-Time Series
San Jose St. holds a 14-2 winning record over Indiana running on a nine-game winning streak. The Hoosiers have found success twice throughout their history with the Spartans, taking home a 14-9 victory in 2005 and 10-8 victory in 2003. The two last met in March of 2017 where the Hoosiers fell short by just one point, ending in 4-3 upset for Indiana.
California has proven to be a dominate team over the years as they hold a 12-1 winning record over Indiana. The Hoosiers defeated the Bears for the first time in 2005 taking home an 8-5 victory. The two will meet this weekend for the fourteenth time in program history as the Hoosiers look to take home their second ever win over Cal.
