BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University's field hockey, women's tennis and men's golf programs are among an elite group of Division I sports teams that earned NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition from the NCAA Wednesday.
Based on their most recent multi-year APR (2014-15 through 2017-18), these three teams posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. Each earned a perfect score of 1,000 for the single-year and multi-year calculations.
Men's golf was recognized for the 12th consecutive year and for the 13th time in the APR Public Recognition program's 14-year history. This is the eighth consecutive recognition for women's tennis, and the third straight for field hockey.
"We are thrilled to congratulate our students, coaches and support staffs of these three programs for this well-deserved and prestigious honor," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass. "Seeing our students achieve academically while earning their IU degrees is of the utmost importance to our department, and these three programs have done this, year in and year out. We are proud to celebrate their successes and commend them for their commitment to excellence in the classroom."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
Multi-year APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 8.
