BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday.
The Hoosiers earned the ITA All-Academic Team honor and had a record eight student-athletes selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Payam Ahmadi, Zac Brodney, Antonio Cembellin, Bennett Crane, Carson Haskins, William Piekarsky, Andrew Redding and Vikash Singh were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
"I'm proud of our student-athletes for their tremendous academic accomplishments this year," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "They are very dedicated to their studies and taking advantage of the incredible education they are receiving at Indiana University."
Even in the summer, several student-athletes are taking classes and doing internships and other professional experiences to gain experience in their desired career field.
Bennett Crane is shadowing at physical therapy clinics this summer and is seeking acceptance into a physical therapy grad school after he graduates from IU.
"Indiana University has given me the opportunity to excel academically as well as prepared me for my future endeavors," Crane said. "I must look back on my academic career and thank the university for all of the doors it has opened for the next stages of my life. Also, without the help of coaches, teammates, advisors, excellence academy personnel I would not be where I am today."
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
