Cross Country Opens 2019 Campaign at Miami Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Cross Country will open the 2019 campaign Friday, Aug. 30 on the road in Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Opener. The meet will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday with the men's 8K race and the women's 6K will follow at 4:20. The Miami University Cross Country Course (5191 Bonham Rd) will serve as the venue.
Indiana is looking to keep the momentum going after a season that was full of successes. Both the men's and women's teams earned at-large bids to the NCAA Championships after a pair of fifth place finishes at the Great Lakes Regional. The Hoosier women placed 17th overall while returner Kyle Mau led the Hoosier men to an 18th place finish at NCAA Championships.
In the first meet of the season the Hoosiers will go up against some tough competition. Indiana will hit the line against Big Ten foe Ohio State, Kentucky, and Miami University. Both the men and the women took home first place team honors last season at the Miami Opener.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) unveiled their 2019 preseason regional and national rankings. On the national scale the men's team checked in at No. 15 in the country. In the Great Lakes region, the IU men came in at No. 3 while the women took the No. 6 spot.
