
No. 4 Indiana Hosts Wisconsin on Friday to Open Big Ten Play

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will begin Big Ten conference play on Friday, Sept. 20 by hosting the Wisconsin Badgers at 5:30 p.m. ET at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Friday's match will be televised live on BTN and will be part of an IU Soccer doubleheader, as the Hoosier women's team will host No. 19 Iowa at 3:00 p.m. ET. A stream of the men's match can also be found at BTNPlus.com. Live stats for the match are available at IUHoosiers.com.
SETTING THE SCENE
• For the first time in school history, the Hoosiers have played in five-straight overtime matches. The Hoosiers trailed in four of those contests, winning three with golden goals.
• IU is undefeated in the team's first five matches of a season for the third time in the last four seasons and for the 16th time in school history.
• Ian Black leads the team with three goals on the season, while A.J. Palazzolo has a team-high two assists on the year.
• Last season, the Hoosiers won both the Big Ten regular season championship (15th time) and Big Ten Tournament championship (13th time) in the same season for the first time since 2006.
• Also, IU advanced to the College Cup for the second-straight year and for a NCAA-record 20th time in program history.
NEWS AND NOTES
• The preseason honors have piled up for Indiana sophomore Jack Maher prior to the 2019 season. Maher was the only sophomore named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and also earned preseason All-America honors from both Top Drawer Soccer (Second Team) and College Soccer News (Third Team).
• Freshman Joshua Penn was named to the preseason Freshman Best XI by Top Drawer Soccer. Indiana's 2019 recruiting class was ranked No. 2 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer.
• Maher, along with Spencer Glass and Simon Waever, were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
• In the Big Ten preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches, Indiana was picked No. 1. Maryland was tabbed second, while Michigan was picked to finish third in the conference.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
• The Wisconsin Badgers come to Bloomington with an overall record of 2-4-0 on the season, with wins over UAB and Lehigh.
• Prior to the season, the Badgers were picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten in a poll conducted of the league's head coaches.
• Four different players have scored all the goals for the Badgers this season.
SERIES HISTORY
• In series history between Indiana and Wisconsin dating back to 1975, the Hoosiers hold a record of 39-5-9.
• IU is 4-0-4 in the last eight matches between the two teams and haven't lost to Wisconsin since Nov. 1, 2014.
• The Hoosiers are 23-1-2 against the Badgers in Bloomington, with the only Wisconsin win coming on Nov. 21, 1993.
REGULAR SEASON DOMINANCE
• Indiana is undefeated in the team's last 28 regular-season, Big Ten conference matches, posting a record of 19-0-9.
• IU's last league loss in the regular season came on Oct. 10, 2015 in overtime at Ohio State, 1-0.
INDIANA UNDEFEATED IN LAST 29 HOME MATCHES
• The Hoosiers are undefeated in the team's last 29 matches at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium, posting a mark of 26-0-3.
• IU's last loss at home came to No. 20 Virginia Tech, 2-1 in overtime, on Nov. 27, 2016 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
90 MINUTES NOT ENOUGH
• For the first time in program history, Indiana has played in five-straight overtime matches.
• The five overtime matches in the team's first five games is already more than IU played in 24 of the program's 47 seasons.
HOOSIERS TABBED BIG TEN FAVORITES
• The Hoosiers were tabbed as the Big Ten preseason favorites in a poll conducted of the league's coaches for the second-straight year.
• Along with being named the preseason favorite, IU's Spencer Glass, Simon Waever and Jack Maher were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
BIG TEN OPENERS
• Indiana has been impressive in Big Ten conference openers, posting a record of 21-2-5, including a 9-1-4 mark at home.
• The Hoosiers are 1-0-2 in their last four conference openers, which includes a 3-1 victory at Wisconsin last season.
BIG TEN CHAMPIONS
• For the first time since 2006, Indiana won both the Big Ten regular season and the Big Ten Tournament titles in the same season in 2018.
• Indiana's regular season title was the 15th in program history, while the tournament championship was the 13th in school history.
CAULFIELD EARNS BIG TEN WEEKLY HONOR
• At the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in South Bend, Ind., Sean Caulfield had a pair of standout performances for the Hoosiers.
• In a 2-1, overtime victory over Denver on Friday, Caulfield made a pair of saves for IU. Then on Sunday against WAC preseason favorite Seattle, the East Lake, Fla. native recorded the first shutout of his career in a 0-0 draw, making three saves.

• For the second-straight week, Indiana is ranked No. 4 in the country in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
• IU is ranked No.5 in the nation by both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.
