No. 2 Indiana Heads to South Bend to Face Denver on Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will travel north to South Bend, Ind. to face Denver in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament on Friday at 4:00 p.m. ET at Alumni Stadium.

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana opened the season with a pair of dramatic, come-from-behind victories in double overtime this past week.
• IU beat Pittsburgh, 3-2, on a golden goal from freshman Herbert Endeley. On Sunday, the Hoosiers took down UCLA, 2-1, on a golden goal from sophomore Jack Maher.
• Last season, the Hoosiers won both the Big Ten regular season championship (15th time) and Big Ten Tournament championship (13th time) in the same season for the first time since 2006.
• Also, IU advanced to the College Cup for the second-straight year and for a NCAA-record 20th time in program history.
• Indiana earned the No. 2 overall for the 2018 NCAA Tournament, marking the 14th time in the last 16 years since the current seeding format began in 2003 that IU earned a top-16 seed.
• The berth for the Hoosiers was the team's 32nd-straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and the 43rd overall in the program's history.

• The preseason honors have piled up for Indiana sophomore Jack Maher prior to the 2019 season. Maher was the only sophomore named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and also earned preseason All-America honors from both Top Drawer Soccer (Second Team) and College Soccer News (Third Team).
• Freshman Joshua Penn was named to the preseason Freshman Best XI by Top Drawer Soccer. Indiana's 2019 recruiting class was ranked No. 2 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer.
• Maher, along with Spencer Glass and Simon Waever, were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
• In the Big Ten preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches, Indiana was picked No. 1. Maryland was tabbed second, while Michigan was picked to finish third in the conference.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
• Denver comes to South Bend with a record of 0-1-1 on the season after dropping a 2-1 decision at Washington before playing Seattle on the road to a 0-0 draw.
• Denver is receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. The Pioneers are ranked No. 14 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 24 by College Soccer News.
• Prior to the season, Denver was picked to win the Summit League title in a poll conducted of the league's coaches. The Pioneers have won at least a share of the last six conference championships.
• Junior MF Jacob Stensson and junior F Preston Judd were tabbed as 2019 Summit League Players to Watch.

• The Hoosiers and the Pioneers have only met once prior to Friday, with that match also coming in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament.

ENDELEY NETS GOLDEN GOAL TO OPEN SEASON
• Down 2-0 after 35 minutes, the Hoosiers staged a dramatic comeback against Pittsburgh in the team's season opener, winning 3-2 in double overtime.
• Freshman Joshua Penn scored the first goal of the season, while Ian Black tied the match for IU in the 57th minute.
• Freshman Herbert Endeley notched the golden goal for the Hoosiers in the 103rd minute, securing the win.
