BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Field Hockey came from behind in Sunday's game to beat the visiting Ball State Cardinals 2-1. Senior captain Kelsey Giese tied the game up in the 24th minute before fellow senior Ciara Girouard scored the game winning goal in the 36th minute.
KEY MOMENTS
- In the fifth minute the Cardinals scored the first goal of the game on a goal from redshirt junior Rachel Pereira. The goal was assisted by Michelle Shampton.
- Indiana threatened on a trio of shot opportunities in the first and second quarter, with including a one-on-one opportunity Hailey Couch and Giese combining to put pressure on Ball State.
- In the 24th minute Giese scored the game tying goal from the right side of the goal standing just inside the circle.
- Nearing the 37th minute of the third quarter Girouard scored the game winning goal off of a penalty corner and was assisted by Giese.
- A defensive effort prevailed in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals took 10 penalty corners and 11 shots but the Hoosiers denied every opportunity to tie the game up to force overtime.
NOTABLES
- Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias had five saves in her fourth start of the season. She improved her record to 2-2.
- The Hoosiers were outshot by the Cardinals 15-9 in the game.
- Both Giese and Girouard scored the first goals of their senior campaigns.
- Giese took four of the Hoosiers nine shots in the game. She leads the Hoosiers with 12 shots for the season.

The Hoosiers will go on the road for their next game against the Saint Louis Billikens on Friday, Sept. 13. The game is slated to start at 7 p.m. ET.
