Mandema And Doherty Help IU To Perfect Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – At the first day of the Indiana Classic, the IU Women's Water Polo team finished 2-0, beating St. Francis (PA), 14-6, and No. 25 California Baptist, 15-7. Leading the way for the Hoosiers was sophomore Izzy Mandema, who scored three goals against St. Francis and sophomore Tina Doherty, who scored three goals against California Baptist.

· The Hoosiers will finish off the Indiana Classic on Sunday when they host Villanova at 9:00 a.m. at the Councilman Billingsley Aquatic Center.

- After trailing early, 2-1, to St. Francis, the Hoosiers rattled off four-straight goals and took a 5-2 lead at the 5:34 mark of the third quarter.
- IU and St. Francis traded goals before the Hoosiers scored five more unanswered goals, capped off by Mandema's third goal of the game with 5:56 remaining.
- Doherty led off the second game for the Hoosiers scoring the first two goals against California Baptist just 2:02 into the matchup.
- An 8-1 run helped the Hoosiers put the game away early, including having an 8-2 lead after the first quarter.
- Doherty scored her third goal of the game with 1:07 remaining in the first quarter.
- With two wins on Saturday, the Hoosiers improve their record to 5-5 on the season.
