
Indiana Women’s Golf Returns to Action at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic

Rio Mar, Puerto Rico – Indiana Women's Golf begins its spring schedule on Sunday as the Hoosiers start play in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The three-day event tees off on Sunday at 7 a.m. ET in a shotgun start.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
• This year marks the 18th annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic and the 10th time overall the Hoosiers have competed in the event. IU finished 12th a season ago with Mary Parsons earning the best finish of this year's returners, coming in at a tie for 45th.
• The tournament features six teams ranked in the top-40 by Golfstat, including No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Kentucky and No. 22 Virginia Tech.
• The Hoosiers will tee off on hole No. 12 in a shotgun start at 7 a.m. ET.
Indiana in the Rankings
The Hoosiers came in at No. 55 in the final Golfstat rankings of the fall and No. 52 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, with a rating of 72.47.
Parsons Named to Team Canada 2020 National Amateur Squad
Parsons is just one of four on the women's squad, which is selected based on objective performance results reviewed by a committee. Most recently, Parsons competed with Team Canada at the 2019 Pan American Games this past summer in Lima, Peru, There, she helped Canada win the first-ever medal in golf with a bronze finish in the team standings. Individually, Parsons finished fifth out of 32 women's golfers with a 72-hole score of 2-over par after rounds of 68-73-75-70. Her opening round 68 gave her the lead after day one and also tied for the low score of the tournament.
Freshmen Making Early Impression
Three freshmen will be teeing off for the Hoosiers in the Lady Puerto Rico Open in Eisenhut, Clancy and Tanaka. In addition, it marks the first team tournament for Tanaka. She previously competed as an individual in the Cardinal Class on Sept. 16-17.
Tournament #1 Recap - Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational
The Hoosiers opened the season Sept. 9-10 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. As a team, Indiana finished in seventh place. Priscilla Schmid tied for second place, finishing 7-under-par. For her efforts, Schmid earned Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week accolades.
Tournament #2 Recap – East-West Match Play
In the two rounds of stroke play action, the Hoosiers tied for fourth place. Mary Parsons led the way as she tied for third place after shooting 3-under-par. Due to a tiebreaker, the team was awarded the fifth seed for one day of match play. The Hoosiers defeated Iowa, 4-1-0 in the lone match play round.
Tournament #3 Recap – Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah
The Hoosiers finished 10th at Medinah on Oct. 7-8. IU was led by Parsons, who tied for 34th and carded a pair of par-72 rounds. Schmid also had a standout performance as she saved the best for last, posting a 2-under-par 70 in the final round.
Tournament #4 Recap – The Landfall Tradition
The Hoosiers ended the fall slate with Schmid earning her first-ever first-place finish, carding an impressive 7-under-par. Her three-round score of 209 matched her career best, set in the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. As a team, the Hoosiers earned another top-10 finish, coming in at seventh.
