Hoosiers Finish Eighth At Triton Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Indiana Women's Water Polo team finished eighth in the UCSD Triton Invite on Sunday after dropping two games to No. 5 UC Irvine, 12-7, and to No. 12 Long Beach State, 10-9. Indiana was led by senior Megan Abarta, who scored seven goals on the day, including a career-high five goals against Long Beach State.

- The Hoosiers opened the day by scoring the first goal against UC Irvine that was contributed by sophomore Tina Doherty at the 6:51 mark of the first quarter.
- After falling down, 3-2, against UC Irvine, goals by freshman Zoe Crouch and junior Juli Hilovsky helped IU recapture the lead, 4-3, with 3:14 remaining in the first half.
- Abarta scored her second goal of the day and the Hoosiers' last against UC Irvine with only four seconds remaining in the contest.
- After falling down, 1-0, early, against Long Beach State, the Hoosiers took their first lead of the game on consecutive goals by sophomore Lauren Etynre at the 3:26 and 2:37 marks of the first quarter.
- Long Beach State recaptured the lead with two goals of their own before Abarta scored her first two goals of the game at the 22 second mark of the first quarter and 6:26 mark of the second quarter to give Indiana a 4-3 lead.
- After falling behind, 9-6, the Hoosiers went on a 3-1 run to close out the game but could not score again after Abarta's fifth goal of the game at the 3:37 point of the fourth quarter.

- After both games on Sunday, the Hoosiers record falls to 3-5 and IU is now 3-7 against UC Irvine and 3-6 against Long Beach State all time.
- All eight of the Hoosier games have come against ranked opponents so far this season.
- Abarta scored five goals against Long Beach State, which sets a new career high that was originally four set on April 13, 2019 against San Jose St.
