Indiana Volleyball Heads North For Match At No. 12 Minnesota

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (8-11, 2-5 Big Ten) is back on the road and will play a solo match at No. 12 Minnesota on Sunday, October 17. The match is set for 3 p.m. ET and will stream live on Big Ten Network Plus.

The Opening Serve
• The Hoosiers are coming off a road trip to No. 9 Nebraska where they dropped the match 3-0 (13-25, 15-25, 15-25).
• Freshman setter Camryn Haworth continues to rank among the Big Ten's best in aces. She currently ranks fourth with 27.
• Junior defensive specialist Paula Cerame sits at No. 5 in the conference in digs with 303. Cerame is averaging 4.33 per set.
• Junior middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg is leading the Hoosier attack, tallying 281 kills and a percentage of .370 so far in 2021. Her percentage is good enough for tenth in the conference.
• As a unit, Indiana is No.8 in blocking among the Big Ten with 196 total blocks and an average of 2.39 per set. The Hoosiers are also No. 8 in digs with 991.

The Gophers have a strong grip on the all-time series record, 58-16. Indiana and Minnesota previously met in 2019 where the Gophers took the match, 3-0 (11-25, 10-25, 11-25). The last win for the Hoosiers was in 2014 where they picked off Minnesota 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-20, 35-33).

• MINNESOTA: The Gophers are coached by Hugh McCutchen who is in his tenth season at the helm of the Minnesota volleyball program. Minnesota is ranked No. 12 in the nation and holds a record of 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten. Redshirt senior opposite Stephanie Samedy leads the Gophers attack as well as the Big Ten with 257 kills and has a hitting percentage of .235. Samedy is also the conference leader in points with 288. Sophomore Melani Shaftmaster is their main setter in which she is responsible for 587 assists so far in 2021. Shaftmaster's 587 assists is the fifth best in the Big Ten. Redshirt senior middle blocker Katie Myers leads the way on defense with 61 blocks. Minnesota is allowing its opponents to hit just .171 while they are hitting .235 as a team. Their hitting percentage is seventh in the Big Ten. The Gophers sit in second among the conference in digs with 16.09 per set.

• The Hoosiers were last in action this past Wednesday when they traveled to No. 9 Nebraska. Indiana stumbled against the Huskers and dropped the match, 3-0 (13-25, 15-25, 15-25). Senior outside hitter Breana Edwards led the attack with six kills and recorded a solo block. Savannah Kjolhede had a team-leading four blocks.
