BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women's soccer battled No. 17 Michigan to a scoreless draw Sunday (Oct. 3) on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Nothing separated the teams after 90 minutes of regulation, forcing overtime. In the first minute of the opening extra period, the match was sent into a delay due to lightning in the area. During the break, the coaches agreed to end the match in a draw due to unplayable field conditions.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg had her work cut out for her in the 33rd minute when she had to face back-to-back Wolverine shots from within the box. Gerstenberg was positioned well and kept the match scoreless with a pair of saves.
• IU nearly broke the tie in the 54th minute off the boot of Paige Webber, but the shot was saved by Michigan keeper Hillary Beall going to her right.
• Melanie Forbes had the Hoosiers' best opportunity of the match on a counterattack as she found herself with space coming down the left wing. Her open shot in the box, however, was corralled by Beall.
NOTABLES
• Indiana's record moves to 8-2-3 on the season and 2-2-1 in Big Ten Conference play.
• The Hoosiers held the advantage in shots taken, 16-11.
• IU's Forbes, Jen Blitchok, and Avery Lockwood each attempted three shots in the match. Four of those nine attempts forced a save.
• Indiana's undefeated streak against Michigan improves to five straight matches, and the Hoosiers are 2-0-3 in that span.
UP NEXT
