No. 25 Illinois and No. 11 Nebraska Due Up For Indiana Volleyball

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (9-17, 3-11 Big Ten) will split the next two matches starting with No. 25 Illinois (19-9, 8-6 Big Ten) on the road on Friday, November 12 followed by a home match against No. 11 Nebraska (17-6, 11-3 Big Ten) on Sunday, November 14. The match against the Illini will begin at 7 p.m. ET while the Hoosiers will face the Huskers at 2 p.m. ET.

The Opening Serve
• The Hoosiers are coming off a two-game road swing at Iowa and Northwestern. They dropped the matches against both the Hawkeyes and Wildcats, 3-1.
• Freshman setter Camryn Haworth tallied a pair of aces this past weekend to improve to 33 on the season. She is currently ranked No. 5 in aces among the Big Ten Conference.
• Junior defensive specialist Paula Cerame continues to be among the best in the conference in digs 409. She currently has the sixth best total.
• Junior middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg moved up a spot to No. 9 in hitting percentage this past week. The junior is currently hitting .343 sign 177 kills.
All-Time Series
• The Hoosiers are 17-72-1 in the all-time series against Illinois. The last time the two schools met was in the spring of 2021 where the Illini took both matches, one in three sets and one in four sets. Indiana's last win in the series came in 2010 where the Hoosiers picked off Illinois, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22).
• Nebraska holds the lead in the all-times series, 20-1. The two programs have already met in 2021 and the Huskers got the win, 3-0 (13-25, 15-25, 15-25). Indiana's lone win was in 1978 where they got the victory on a neutral court.
Checking Out the Competition
• ILLINOIS: Chris Tamas is in his fifth season at the helm of the Illinois Volleyball program. They have posted a record of 16-9 overall, 8-6 in the Big Ten, and are currently ranked No. 25 in the country. Junior middle blocker Kennedy Collins leads the Illini attack with 234 kills and a hitting percentage of .330. She also leads the team in blocks with 107. Senior defensive specialist Taylor Kuper has recorded a team-leading 424 digs and tallied 38 aces. Her 38 aces are the sixth best in the Big Ten. Sophomore outside hitter Raina Terry leads the squad in aces with 43 which is good for third in the conference. Redshirt junior Diana Brown is their main setter and has put up 968 assists so far this season. Her assist total is No. 8 in the Big Ten. As a team, Illinois is hitting .215 and has allowed their opponent to hit just .198. The Illini lead the conference is aces with a total of 174 and are averaging 1.89 per set.
• NEBRASKA: John Cook is the head coach of the Huskers Volleyball program and is in his 21st season. They are currently No. 11 in the country and have a record of 17-6 overall and 11-3 in the Big Ten. Junior outside hitter Madi Kubik leads the lethal Nebraska attack with a hitting percentage of .236 on 269 kills. Senior middle blocker Kayla Caffey is their lead blocker, totaling 78 block so far this season. Caffey owns the sixth best hitting percentage among the conference at .381 on 162 kills. Senior Nicklin Hammes does the setting for the Huskers and has raked up 777 assists. Hammes is No. 5 in the Big Ten in assists, averaging 10.50 per set. As a unit, Nebraska is hitting .228 while the opposing team is hitting .156. They have seen 116 aces compared to the opponents 70. The Huskers are third in the conference in opponent kills and service aces.

• The Hoosiers kicked off last weekend with a trip to Iowa where they stumbled against the Hawkeyes, 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 20-25, 23-25). Breana Edwards led the squad with 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .368. Haley Armstrong, Savannah Kjolhede, and Mady Saris all tallied aces in the match.
• Indiana closed out the weekend at Northwestern and dropped the Sunday match, 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 22-25). Grae Gosnell recorded a new career high 11 kills which led the Hoosiers attack. Breana Edwards served up three straight aces in set two and Savannah Kjolhede led the team in blocking with three.

• Graduate student setter Brooke Westbeld comes off the bench and has totaled a team-high 468 assists.

• As the Hoosiers starting libero, junior Paula Cerame is No. 6 in the Big Ten in digs, totaling 409 so far this season.
• In the match against Northwestern on November 7, sophomore outside hitter Grae Gosnell raked in a career and team-high 11 kills. She also saw a hitting percentage of .333 and four digs.
