Men’s Golf Earns Second Place Finish at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Indiana Men's Golf earned a second-place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, with three earning a place in the top 10 and freshman Clay Merchent tying for third. It is the best team finish for Indiana in a stroke play event since the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational in Sept. 2018. All six Hoosiers competing, including Brock Ochsenreiter who played as an individual, finished in the top 31.

• The 844 three-round score for Indiana is tied for the 10th best three-round team score in program history and the lowest since an 839 at the Windon Memorial in Oct. 2017. In addition, Tuesday's final round of 279 (9-under-par) is the best low round since the team shot 278 (10-under) in the Bighorn Invitational on March 24, 2018.
• Freshman Clay Merchent carded a 3-under-par 69 for the second consecutive day to earn a tie for third place. The finish is the best for a Hoosier since Brock Ochsenreiter finished second at the Steelwood Collegiate in Oct. 2018. Merchent moved up seven spots on the final day, collecting four birdies and shooting a 34 on the back nine.
• Freshman Drew Salyers and junior Mitch Davis finished tied for ninth place. Salyers fired a 68 on the final day, the best round of anyone on the team this week, to move up from 20th place. He was especially impressive to start as he birdied four of his first six holes. Davis knocked off a pair of strokes from yesterday, shooting a 70 with three birdies and just one bogey on the day.
• Senior Ethan Shepherd tied for 21st place after carding a 2-over-par 74. He had three birdies on Tuesday.
• Junior Harry Reynolds shot an even-72 for the third straight day to finish tied for 27th.
• As a team, the Hoosiers tied for the second-most birdies in the field with 52.
• Brock Ochsenreiter, competing as an individual, moved up 16 spots as he put together his best round of the week with a 3-under-par 69. Ochsenreiter had just one bogey and carded three birdies, including three-straight on No. 2, 3 and 4.
