ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Indiana men's golf opened up play in the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island on Monday with senior Ethan Shepherd and freshman Clay Merchent currently sitting in a tie for 17^th place.

• Shepherd and Merchent both ended the day at an even-144. Shepherd shot a 72 in each round. He started on No. 7 and had three birdies in the first round. In the second, he recovered from a tough start to pick up four birdies on the back nine. Merchent shot a 73 in the opening round before cutting two strokes off in the second round. He was especially impressive on the back nine as he had three birdies.

• Junior Mitch Davis and Harry Reynolds are both tied for 38^th place at 2-over-par 146. Davis shot a 73 in each round and picked up seven total birdies. Reynolds opened the day by shooting an even-72 with four birdies. He shot a 74 in the second round.

• Freshman Drew Salyers is tied for 48^th after carding a 4-over 148. He shot a 74 in both rounds and had five birdies on the day.

• The Hoosiers are tied for the best par-3 (2.95) and par-4 (4.03) scoring in the field.

• As a team, the Hoosiers currently sit in a tie for eighth place.
