Indiana Climbs to Third Place on Night Two

Ristic Earns First-Career Individual B1G Medal
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 21-ranked Indiana Hoosier women's swim team shot up the team standings after a series of strong Championship Final performances on Wednesday night during the 2021 Big Ten Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
200 IM FINALS
Junior Noelle Peplowski turned in the quickest Hoosier time in the Championship Final with a mark of 1:57.05, the second-best time of her career in the event. She claimed fourth to narrowly edge her teammate, junior Mackenzie Looze. The Bloomington, Ind., native finished fifth with a time of 1:57.16.
In the Consolation Final, senior Abby Kirkpatrick turned in a strong performance to finish 11th overall with a time of 1:59.26. Senior Bailey Kovac finished 13th out of the second heat with a time of 1:59.73.
Sophomore Emily Weiss earned a hard-fought victory in the C Final of the event, setting a new career-best mark with an NCAA B Cut time of 1:58.51.
50 FREESTYLE FINALS
Indiana was well represented in the Consolation Final of the 50 Freestyle. Sophomore Ashley Turak used a great jump off the blocks to propel her to a victory in the heat and a ninth-place finish with a time of 22.26. Freshman Elizabeth Broshears matched her career-best time (22.51) set in the preliminary rounds to finish 13th, while senior Laurel Eiber tied for 15th with a time of 22.77.
500 FREESTYLE FINALS
In her first Big Ten Championships individual swim, freshman Ella Ristic earned a bronze medal with a career-best time of 4:42.06. Senior Josie Grote finished right behind Ristic in fourth with a time of 4:43.16.
Junior Maggie Wallace finished third in the Consolation Final (11th overall) with a time of 4:46.64.
400 MEDLEY RELAY
The Hoosier team consisting of Kovac, Peplowski, Broshears, and Turak finished fifth with a time of 3:34.68.

NOTABLES
• Peplowski earned her first-career podium finish in the 200 IM, sixth overall. The Germantown Hills, Ill., native registered three individual podiums finishes in 2020.
• Looze has made the podium in three-straight seasons in the 200 IM. She claimed third in the event in 2020 and earned a seventh-place finish in 2019.
• The fourth-place finish from Grote marked her best individual finish at the Big Ten Championships and her second podium finish. He other top-eight mark came in a sixth-place finish in the 400 IM at the 2019 conference championship meet.
• Ristic now stands as the 17th-ranked performer in program history in the 500 Freestyle after turning in a career-best time of 4:42.06. Her time ranks inside the top-25 nationally.
