
Hoosiers Split Doubleheader With Nebraska On Opening Day

LEESBURG, Fla. – Returning to play for the first time in 2021, Indiana Softball (1-1, 1-1 Big Ten) won the first of two games against Nebraska 3-1 while the Cornhuskers took game two by a score of 4-2.
Game One: Indiana 2, Nebraska 1
KEY MOMENTS
• Senior outfielder Gabbi Jenkins saw the first hit of 2021 for the Hoosiers which resulted in a bunt to the pitcher for a single in the first inning.
• The Cornhuskers were the first score, hitting on home run to lead it 1-0.
• Indiana used the bottom of the fourth inning to regain control of the game. Grayson Radcliffe got it going with a double through the gap in right field. Gabbi Jenkins would bring Radcliffe home on an RBI double to left center to even the score 1-1.
• Bella Norton brought in Jenkins for the winning run with a hit out to left field in the fourth inning.
• With Nebraska having a runner in scoring position with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, the Indiana defense came up clutch to retire the side and keep their 2-1 lead.
• In the bottom of the sixth, Hannah Davis singled to the Nebraska shortstop and added to the Indiana lead by bringing in Norton.
• The Hoosiers sent the Nebraska batters down in order at the top of seventh inning and preserved their 3-1 lead and won the game.
NOTABLES
• Freshmen Brooke Benson and Macy Montgomery saw their first career starts for Indiana on Friday morning.
• Grace Lorsung entered the game as a pinch hitter to earn her first looks in an Indiana uniform.
• Davis, Jenkins, and Norton turned in a multi-hit game. They all had two hits each while also tallying one RBI.
• Senior Emily Goodin pitched a complete game where she gave up one run on three hits with nine strikeouts.
Game Two: Nebraska 4, Indiana 2
KEY MOMENTS
• Nebraska earned the first run of the second game in the bottom of the second where they scored after a wild pitch.
• Answering back in the fourth inning, Desiree Dufek hit a solo home run over the center field wall to tie it.
• Jenkins put the Hoosiers ahead by plating Taylor Lambert with a sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the fifth.
• the Cornhuskers regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth by scoring two runs.
• Grayson Radcliffe, Jenkins, and Norton were due up for Indiana in the top of the seventh inning but couldn't get anything going as the Hoosiers fell to Nebraska, 4-2.

• Montgomery saw her first career innings in the circle for the Hoosiers.
• Junior Tete Hart and sophomore Abigail Meeks made their season debuts.
• Sophomore Desiree Dufek hit her first home run of the season and fourth in her career.
