Hoosiers Tied for Fifth After First Round of General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Indiana men's golf ended the first round of the General Hackler Championship tied for fifth place after a strong performance on the back nine on Sunday at the Dune Golf & Beach Club. The Hoosiers are led by freshman Drew Salyers, who carded a 3-under-par 69 to sit in a tie for 11th place.

• The teams began on split tees, going off No. 1 and No. 10. Indiana started on No. 1.
• Four of the five in the Indiana lineup shot better on the back nine.
• Freshman Drew Salyers turned in the second-best round of his young career, carding a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday to end the day tied for 11th place. He already owns the best round for anyone on the team this year as he shot a 68 in the final round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Salyers collected three birdies and birdied or parred every hole but one. He was strongest on the back nine as he shot 2-under.
• Ethan Shepherd was also strongest on the back nine, as he shot 2-under to finish the round tied for 16th. Shepherd had four total birdies on the day.
• Harry Reynolds is tied for 34th place after carding an even-72. After shooting a 1-over-37, he improved by two strokes on the back nine. Reynolds had four birdies on Sunday.
• Senior Mitch Davis and freshman Clay Merchant are both tied for 47th after carding a 1-over 73. Davis ran in to some trouble with a double bogey on No. 2, but recovered nicely with the aid of four birdies. Merchent was even at the turn, before carding a 1-over on the back nine.
