BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 23 Indiana (4-1-0) rallied back from a first half deficit to top the Michigan State Spartans (2-4-0) by a score of 2-1 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on a rain-soaked Monday evening.
KEY MOMENTS
• Michigan State struck first in the contest off a set piece. Junior midfielder Louis Sala swung in a corner from the left side of goal that sailed over the defensive line of the Hoosiers and found the head of junior defender Luke Morrell. The Plainwell, Mich., native redirected the ball into the upper right corner of the net to give the visitors the 1-0 advantage 25 minutes into the match.
• Indiana created one legitimate chance in the first half when freshman midfielder Emerson Nieto slipped behind the Michigan State defense and threw a shot on frame. Senior keeper Isiah Handspike was up to the challenge, turning back the attempt.
• IU found the equalizer in the 62nd minute courtesy of the right foot of sophomore forward Victor Bezerra. He was on the receiving end of a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Brett Bebej, gathered the pass, took three quick controlling touches and fired a shot off the Spartan defender from the 18-yard box line just left of frame.
• Redshirt sophomore defender Daniel Munie scored the game-winning tally in the 88th minute. The assist came from a set piece from redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass. He served the ball from nearly midfield into the box, it trickled through the MSU defense, and Munie flicked it into the back of the net.
NOTABLES
