
IUFH Downed By Maryland In Game One Of The Weekend

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Indiana Field Hockey (0-7, 0-7 Big Ten) kicked off its weekend series with Maryland (4-3, 4-3 Big Ten) on Friday night where the Hoosiers were defeated by the Terrapins 5-0. Peyton Becker, Taylor Etling, Anna Gwiazdzinski, and Mary Kate Kesler all had shots for Indiana.
KEY MOMENTS
• Kesler had the first shot of the game by either team. The shot was on frame but saved by the Maryland goalkeeper.
• The first goal of the night came off a penalty corner for the Terrapins which allowed Maryland to go up 1-0 as the first quarter came to a close.
• Indiana earned their first corner to open the second quarter. Emma Martin inserted the ball and Gwiadzdinski got the shot on goal, but Maryland picked up another save.
• Gwiadzdinski saw another shot a few minutes later as it hit the post.
• Maryland scored two quick goals to go up 3-0 in the second period. One came immediately after a shot was saved by Shannon McNally and the other came from a loose ball after another McNally save.
• McNally had four saves through the first two frames.
• The Terrapins would add another score on a penalty stroke to go up 4-0 at the halftime break.
• With not much going for either team in the third quarter, Becker saw a shot on target, but the keeper was there to protect the cage.
• Etling got a shot off in the fourth quarter as it went wide of the cage.
• Maryland tacked on its final goal in the closing minutes of the game to win the match 5-0.
