Hoosiers Drop Game One To No.25 Michigan, 7-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was the first game of 2021 for Indiana Softball (7-6, 7-6 Big Ten) back at Andy Mohr Field as the Hoosiers hosted No. 25 Michigan (10-3, 10-3 Big Ten). In the first of four games between the two teams, the Wolverines topped Indiana by a score of 7-1.
KEY MOMENTS
• Gabbi Jenkins hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the first before Grayson Radcliffe got a hit to left field that plated Jenkins for the first run of the afternoon.
• After both squads retired the side in the second, the Wolverines found the equalizer in the third when a passed ball brought a runner home.
• Bella Norton got the Hoosier bats going in the sixth with a double that made it to the warning track. Abby Meeks was walked to put two on with one out. In to pinch run, Tete Hart attempted to steal third but was caught for the second out while Lacefield hit a grounder to end the inning and kept the game tied.
• In the top of the seventh, Michigan found its rhythm and tallied six runs to put cushion on the lead.
• Down 7-1, Indiana had to a find a way to rally. Desiree Dufek pinch hit for Brooke Benson where she drew the walk. Aaliyah Andrews knocked a single that advanced Benson who reentered. Brittany Ford's grounder to the second baseman advanced Dufek and Benson to third and second, respectively.
• Indiana couldn't plate any runs as the Wolverines took the first game of the series, 7-1.
NOTABLES
• Gabbi Jenkins and Hannah Davis had multi-hits games with two each.
• Jenkins led the team in stolen bases with two. She now has a Big Ten-leading 14 stolen bases on the season.
• Grayson Radcliffe had the lone RBI.
• As a team, the Hoosiers connected for seven hits.
