Hoosiers Comeback Falls Short At Michigan on Friday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Indiana Field Hockey (0-3, 0-3 Big Ten) kicked off the weekend by visiting Michigan (1-0, 1-0 Big Ten) on Friday afternoon. After letting the Wolverines out to a 2-0 lead, the Hoosiers would try to mount the comeback but came up short, 2-1.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Wolverines got the first goal of the contest at the 2:35 mark in the first quarter to take an early 1-0 advantage.
• In the opening minutes the Hoosiers would apply the offensive pressure but couldn't get anything going. Michigan would turn down field and score their second goal of the afternoon.
• Indiana saw their first penalty corner in the closing minute of the second quarter. Sydney Keld got the first shot, but it was deflected by the Michigan goalkeeper. Emma Martin received the following shot off the deflection in which the ball hit the back of the cage for a Hoosiers goal.
• At halftime the score read 2-1, Michigan.
• Madi Guyer and Sophie Giltrap took shots in the closing period. Guyer's was saved by the keeper while Giltrap's was blocked a Michigan defender.
• With the contest coming to a close, Indiana would go empty net in an attempt to find the equalizer, but the Hoosiers would come up short, 2-1, at Michigan.

• Freshman Emma Martin received her first career start on Friday vs. the Wolverines. Martin also saw her first career goal in the second period of action.
• Freshman Jemima Cookson secured her career assist on Martin's goal.
• Sophomore Sydney Keld saw her first minutes in an Indiana uniform against Michigan. She also took her first career shot which was on frame but saved by the keeper.
• Sophie Giltrap, Madi Guyer, Sydney Keld and Emma Martin tallied shots for the Hoosiers.
• Shannon McNally had seven saves on the day.
