
Indiana Falls to Nebraska, 8-5

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team fell to Nebraska, 8-5, on Friday night at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind.
With the setback, the Hoosiers fall to 24-14 on the season overall and in Big Ten conference play. The Cornhuskers improve to 26-11 on the year and in league action.
KEY MOMENTS
• After Nebraska jumped out to an early, 4-0 lead in the top of the second innings, Indiana responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs of their own.
• OF Grant Richardson started the scoring with a solo home run over the fence in left-center field. Four batters later, INF James Espalin plated a run with an RBI single up the middle.
• INF Jeremy Houston followed, plating Espalin with a run-scoring single to right field to make the score 4-3 after two innings.
• The Cornhuskers responded, however, scoring two runs in the third and another in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Houston cut the advantage to 7-4 with an RBI single through the left side.
• IU chipped away again in the bottom of the seventh inning on a run-scoring triple to left field from Richardson. The three-bagger was his second of the season, making the Nebraska lead 7-5.
• Nebraska added a run in the top of the ninth to push the lead to 8-5. In the bottom of the inning, IU was unable to start a rally, falling to the Huskers.
NOTABLES
• Houston's three hits on the night were a career-high.
• Out of the bullpen, RHP Grant Macciocchi was excellent for the Hoosiers, tossing a career-high four innings, allowing no runs with a career-best six strikeouts.
• INF Paul Toetz extended his reached-base streak to 21 games with a single in the bottom of the third inning.
