National Championship Spots On The Line For IUTF This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After 732 days between regional meets, Indiana Track & Field returns to the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend. 32 Hoosiers will compete in the four-day meet spanning from May 26-29. The men will compete on May 26 and 28 while the women are set for competition on May 27 and 29 at Hodges Stadium.

Last Time Out: Big Ten Outdoor Championships
Indiana is coming off the Big Ten Championships where three Hoosiers walked away with individual Big Ten Championships. Leah Moran highlighted the field with her title-defending performance in the triple jump. Moran locked in the victory in five jumps but on her encore attempt she recorded a mark of 13.56m (44' 6") which set a new personal record and improved on her previous school record. Nathan Stone completed the pole vault indoor and outdoor sweep after clearing a height of 5.42m (17' 9.25"). Ben Veatch won the 10000m in a time of 29:09.13. 17 other Hoosiers and three relays scored for Indiana. The women finished in second with 109 points while the men collected 33.33 points.
Ohio State won the women's team title and while Iowa walked away team champions for the second-straight outdoor season.

Three Hoosiers have broken program records so far this outdoor season. Bailey Hertenstein set the school record in the 5000m on April 16 with her time of 15:38.01. Khayla Dawson heaved a distance of 18.91m (62' 5") in the shot put on May 1 to improve on her school record. The mark was the No. 2 mark in the US and No. 6 in the world so far this year. It is also the new Big Ten record all-time and No. 6 all time in the NCAA. Leah Moran broke her own school record in the triple jump at the Big Ten Championships on May 16. She soared a mark of 13.56m (44' 6") to defend her 2019 outdoor long jump title.
