First Weekend Of U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials In The Books

EUGENE, Ore. – The U.S. Olympic Trials concluded its first slate of competition on Monday night. Six current and former members of Indiana Track & Field competed throughout the weekend.
Kicking the trials off for the Hoosiers, Leah Moran competed in the qualifying round of the triple jump where she leaped a mark of 13.49m (44' 3.25") to earn the sixth spot in the finals that occurred on Sunday night. In the finals, capping off her stellar Indiana career, Moran finished in the 10th with a mark of 13.30m (43' 7.75").
Also competing in an IU uniform, Adam Coulon participated in his first outdoor meet since 2019. The Downs, Ill. native cleared 5.40m (17' 8.5") and finished in 23rd overall.
Turning to alumni of the program, Scott Houston advanced to the final of the pole vault with a season best clearance of 5.65m (18' 6.5"). Returning for the final round, Houston finish in seventh with a height of 5.75m (18' 10.25"). Derek Volz competed the trio of Hoosiers in the pole vault competition but did not clear a height in the qualifying round.
Daniel Michalski had the third fastest time in the first round of the steeplechase on Monday night. Michalski earned an auto-qualifying spot by laying down a time of 8:22.03. He will race in the final with a ticket to Tokyo on the line on Friday, June 25 at 7:42 p.m. ET.
The trials will now take two rest days on Tuesday and Wednesday before resuming the final weekend of events on Thursday, June 24. Khayla Dawson and Maddy Pollard get it started in the women's shot put qualifying round beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
