
No. 9 Indiana, No. 16 Akron Play to 1-1 Draw

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (3-1-1) played to a 1-1 draw against the No. 16-ranked Akron Zips (4-0-1) after 110 minutes on Friday night at Cub Cadet Field at FirstEnergy Stadium.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana struck first with a goal in the 66th minute off a corner from junior striker Victor Bezerra. The take found the head of redshirt junior Daniel Munie, who redirected the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the 2021 season.
• Akron answered right back with a goal of their own in the 68th minute from redshirt senior midfielder Diego Pacheco on the assist from freshman forward Jason Shokalook.
• The Hoosier defense withstood a flurry of dangerous chances from the Zips in the final 15 minutes of play. Akron attempted seven shots in the final 15 minutes that included a pair of saves from junior keeper Roman Celentano, three shots blocked by Hoosier defenders, and a pair of takes that sailed just high of the crossbar.
• For the second time in the match, Bezerra found a hint of free space inside the UA box in the 95th minute during the first overtime stanza. His right-footed blast required a diving save from senior keeper Will Meyer. The Solon, Ohio, native made a similar save in the 54th minute off a Bezerra shot.
• Senior defender Nyk Sessock saw the best Hoosier chance in the second OT with a driving shot from the right side of goal. Meyer was again up to the task to turn back the potential winner.

• The goal from Munie is his first since scoring the match-winner in the 88th minutes against Michigan State on March 15, 2021. The Maryland Heights, Mo., native has recorded three career goals.
• Celentano recorded three saves in the match. His counterpart collected a game-high six saves. The Hoosier defense faced 16 shots and four on frame.
• Indiana set season-highs in shots (17) and shots on goal (7). The Hoosiers outshot the Zips, 17-16 and put three more shots on frame.
• IU is 19-7-9 in the program's last 35 matches against ranked foes and sports a record of 4-1-2 since the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
