
Indiana Volleyball Ready To Host First Home Weekend Of 2021

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (5-4) will play inside Wilkinson Hall for the first time this fall as they host the Indiana Invitational on September 16 and 17. The Hoosiers will face Alabama A&M (0-7), Chicago State (6-3), and Ole Miss (8-0). All of Indiana's matches will stream live on BTN+.

The Opening Serve
• The Hoosiers made the trip to Atlanta this past weekend for the Georgia Tech Classic where they faced high competition in Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and No. 21 Georgia Tech. Despite dropping the three matches, Indiana took the Bulldogs and Sooner to five sets and the hosting Yellow Jackets to four.
• Junior middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg leads the squad in kills and hitting percentage with 85 kills and a percentage of .429. Her .429 ranks sixth among the Big Ten Conference.
• Junior defensive specialist Paula Cerame has recorded a team leading 160 digs. This is good for eighth in the Big Ten. She is also averaging 4.21 per set.
• As a team, Indiana has put up 136 bocks which is fifth in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are averaging 2.76 blocks per set.
• The Hoosiers are eighth in the conference with 543 digs and 14.29 per set.
All-Time Series
• Indiana and Alabama A&M played back-to-back in 2009 and 2010 where the Hoosiers won both matches.
• The Hoosiers and Chicago State have only played twice in their program's history, in 2006 and 1976. Indiana holds the series record, 2-0.
• Indiana and Mississippi have met just once previously in 1996 where the Hoosiers swept the Rebels, 3-0.
Checking Out the Competition
• Alabama A&M: Rose Magers-Powell is at the helm of the Alabama A&M program. The Bulldogs are 0-7 on the season and have yet to win a set against the opponents. Freshman middle blocker leads the way in kills with 33. Freshman Aerienne Acuff is their main setter and has recorded 48 assists this season while Sophomore middle blocker Catherine Nduke has recorded a team-high 11 blocks.
• Chicago State: The Cougars are led by Head Coach Tony Trifonov who is in his second season at the helm. Chicago State has compiled a 6-3 record so far in 2021. Up those six wins, three have been straight-set sweeps. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Yanlis Feliz leads the Cougars attacks with 154 kills and a .249 hitting percentage. On defense, redshirt sophomore middle blocker Mesalina Severino has recorded a team-high 30 blocks this season. As a team, Chicago State is hitting .239 and 1.61 blocks per set.
• Ole Miss: Kayla Banwarth entered her second season as the head coach of the Rebels in 2021 and has led them to an 8-0 record. In a balanced attack, Sasha Ratliff leads the way with 61 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Ratliff also holds a team-high 30 blocks. Kylee McLaughlin is the main setter, racking in 252 assists in 2021. As a unit, Ole Miss is hitting .300 with 13.67 kills per set. They are allowing opponents to hit just .105.

• Graduate Student setter Brooke Westbeld has put up 283 assists which leads the team.

• Freshman outside hitter Mady Saris leads the Hoosiers in kills with 112 so far this season.
• Sophomore middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede has a team-leading 41 blocks through the first nine games of 2021.
Becoming a Hoosier
• Indiana welcomed three transfers during the offseason, Paula Cerame (Florida), Isa Lopez (La Salle), and Kaley Rammelsberg (High Point).
• Cerame hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico and played the last three seasons at Florida.While playing for the Gators, she appeared in 67 matches with 276 digs and 49 assists.
• Lopez comes to Indiana from La Salle. Lopez is from Richardson, Texas where she was a three-year letter winner at Ursuline Academy of Dallas.
• Rammelsberg spent the two seasons prior to 2021 at High Point where she was part of the 2020-21 Big South conference championship team and made the All-Big South First Team in 2019 and 2020. She was also named Big South Freshman of the Year. The Westerville, Ohio native played in 185 sets across 52 matches. She recorded 386 kills, 157 blocks, and 53 digs.
Returning in 2021
• Kari Zumach makes her way back to the court for Indiana after not playing in the 2020 season due to injury. During her sophomore season, Zumach played 13 matches where she tallied 49 kills, 23 blocks, and 21 digs.
• Brooke Westbeld returns for her final season with the Hoosiers after leading the squad in assists with 376 and kills with 177 in 2020-21.
• Haley Armstrong led the squad in digs with 209 during the 2020-21 campaign. She also tied the team high sets played with 65.
• Savannah Kjolhede leads the way for Indiana when it comes to blocks. She tallied 58 during her freshman season.
