Bloomington, Ind. – Senior swimmer Josie Grote and former IU track and field standout Kyle Mau have been named the winners of the 2021 G. Frederick Glass Director's Award, an annual award that honors one male and one female student-athlete who best represent IU's 24 Sports One Team creed.
"Josie and Kyle have made enormous impacts on the successes of their respective programs, on their fellow student-athletes and on the IU and Bloomington communities throughout their careers," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson. "They embody everything that we what we want for all of our student-athletes when they first set foot on campus, making them ideal recipients of this important honor."
Josie Grote

Madison, Indiana
As Josie Grote concludes her career as a student-athlete at Indiana University, there's no doubt that she's checked all the boxes.
All-American – check. All-Big Ten – check. Member of a Big Ten championship team – check. Big Ten Distinguished Scholar - check. Academic All-Big Ten – check. Olympic Trials qualifier – check.
No one could have asked for more, but she still managed to do more. She was also a Hoosier Heroes mentor for three years, and an executive board member on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She served as the executive board member of SAAC's service learning committee, where she was able to fulfill her passion for community service.
To further her career goals, she also worked in a Physiology lab on campus, at a sports orthopedics center, and at a physical therapy office in town.
She's checked so many boxes and impacted so many lives during her time in Bloomington that she was recently named a recipient of both the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship and the Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Graduate Scholarship, prestigious honors that are reserved for a very limited number of seniors who have excelled at the very highest levels both academically and athletically during their undergraduate careers.

Kyle Mau
IU Men's Track and Field/Cross Country
Hudson, Ohio
Kyle Mau has been making a difference for IU Cross Country and Track and Field, and for his fellow student-athletes since the first set foot on the IU campus as a freshman.
That was a while ago – Kyle arrived in the fall of 2015 as a highly-accomplished and coveted distance runner from Ohio. During this last six years, he has done everything that could have hoped for…and then some.
During his highly-successful career, Kyle has earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors and has won multiple Big Ten Championships. He's been an integral part of two Big Ten Championship teams, and has been a regular at NCAA Championship events in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track and field. When he's competed at NCAAs he's made a notable impact, which can be seen by his eight All-America honors.
He's equally accomplished academically, as he regularly earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors while completing his undergraduate degree. He didn't stop there, as this spring, he completed his Master's degree in Athletic Administration.
In addition to all that he did on the track and in the classroom, Kyle also served as the Track and Field program's SAAC representative.
"Josie and Kyle have made enormous impacts on the successes of their respective programs, on their fellow student-athletes and on the IU and Bloomington communities throughout their careers," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson.
