Hoosiers Open Season with Wins over Toledo, Bellarmine

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team got the 2022 season off to a solid start with a 6-1 win over Toledo and 7-0 win over Bellarmine on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
In the opening match the Hoosiers got out to a strong start with the No. 1 doubles team of Ilya Tiraspolsky and Michael Andre capturing a 6-3 win. Patrick Fletchall and Vikash Singh gave Indiana the doubles point with a 7-5 win.
The Hoosiers (2-0) captured four of six first sets in singles. Luka Vukovic finished his match first with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Fletchall gave Indiana a third point with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
Tiraspolsky clinched the match for the Hoosiers with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
The teams played out the remaining three matches, all going to 10-point tie breaks with the Hoosiers winning two out of three to finish off the 6-1 win.
The Hoosiers swept all three doubles matches against Bellarmine to build a 1-0 lead in the match.
At No. 6 singles Nishanth Basavareddy won 6-0, 6-0 to put the Hoosiers up 2-0 in the match.
Michael Andre, Patrick Fletchall, Ilya Tiraspolsky and Luka Vukovic earned wins for the Hoosiers in the sweep over Bellarmine.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Auburn, Ala., to take on Auburn and Vanderbilt Jan. 29 and 30.
