
Indiana Wrestling Set for Road Trip at Rutgers and Penn State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –– Indiana Wrestling will open their conference season with two Big Ten road meets. First, they'll face No. 2 Rutgers on Friday, then they'll follow up with a meeting at No. 2 Penn State Sunday.
LOOKING BACK AT OHIO:
• The Hoosiers competed in a dual match on Jan. 4 at Ohio that was ruled as a no-contest. Only individual scores were recorded.
• Due to COVID-19 protocol, there were only six weight classes where both teams sent out wrestlers to compete. Two additional bouts were included at the end, too, at 184 and 125 lbs.
• The 157, 174, 197, and 285 weight classes did not compete. D.J. Washington, Noah Gochberg, and Brock Hudkins all picked up victories in their matches.
• Washington got his first MD win of the season in the process.
•This was the Hoosiers' first action since Dec. 11 in the Cleveland State Open after not being able to participate in the Midlands and MatMen due to COVID-19.
SCOUTING RUTGERS:
• Rutgers enters the meet with Indiana on a tremendous 10-0 start to the season.
• Rutgers' lineup features seven wrestlers ranked by InterMat.
• Each of the four Hoosiers ranked will get to face off against a ranked wrestler from Rutgers.
• The matchup of the day comes in the 184 lbs. bout between IU's DJ Washington and Rutgers' John Poznanski. Each are 10-0 with Washington slotted at InterMat's No. 8 spot and Poznanski at No. 5 from InterMat.
SCOUTING PENN STATE:
• Like Rutgers, Penn State is off to a great start to the season, currently owning an 8-0 record before their Friday dual at Maryland.
• Penn State has eight wrestlers ranked according to InterMat, including six of the eight being in the top five of their respective weight class.
• Roman Bravo-Young (133), Nick Lee (141), Carter Starocci (174), and Aaron Brooks (184) each are ranked No. 1 in their class by InterMat.
RANKINGS SHAKE-UP:
• In the latest InterMat rankings, Indiana had their same quad of wrestlers ranked in the national poll.
• Jacob Moran is placed at No. 25 for 125 lbs and Cayden Rooks is slotted at No. 26 for 141 lbs.
• Hudkins and Washington continued their ascent as they climbed in the poll.
• Hudkins moved up to No. 19 for 133 lbs. and Washington slid up one spot in the 184 lbs. weight class, now being considered No. 8.
DOUBLE TROUBLE:
• Washington and Hudkins both are undefeated and have a combined 15-0 individual record between the two of them.
