BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Cross Country team will partake in one of the nation's most prestigious events in the final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships at the end of the month.
The Nuttycombe Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, will feature 36 teams on both sides including the defending National Champions Northern Arizona (Men) and NC State (Women).
Fueled by 15 personal bests in the college gold division at the Paul Short Invite two weeks ago, the Hoosiers are rounding into form as the calendar turns to the postseason at the end of October.
Sarah Schmitt continues to have an outstanding season as she leads IU's women. She clocked a personal best of 19:57.0 at the Paul Short Invite, her first sub-20 6K time of her collegiate career.
Coming off a 14th-place finish at last year's Big Ten Championships, Schmitt has the potential to earn First Team All-Conference honors this year.
Katherine Receveur (2016) owns the top 6K time in program history at Wisconsin's Zimmer Course with her mark of 19:57.3
Joining Schmitt in the varsity race include the likes of Mariah Wehrle (20:14.4) and Jenna Barker (20:32.4).
On the men's side, Jake Gebhardt (23:38.4) and Gabriel Sanchez (23:32.0) lead a solid 1-2 punch in the Hoosier lineup.
The pair of runners have exchanged the honor of being IU's top finisher at the last two races with Gebhardt pacing the Hoosiers at the Coaching Tree Invitational and Gabriel Sanchez doing the same at the Paul Short Invite.
Gebhardt and Sanchez were among seven runners to clock personal bests in the College Gold race at the Paul Short Invite.
Andy Bayer (2010) owns IU's best-ever 8K mark on the Wisconsin Zimmer Cross Country Course when he ran 23:39.4.
Friday's festivities will begin with Open Races (Women: 11:00 AM, Men: 11:40 AM) and then the Championship Races at 12:20 (Women's 6K) and 1:00 PM (Men's 8K) respectively.
Streaming can be found on Runnerspace with live results feeding through PTTiming.
