
Indiana Falls to No. 9 Purdue in Five-Set Thriller

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In front of a record-setting crowd inside Wilkinson Hall (2,512), the Indiana Volleyball team (9-10, 2-5) played No. 9 Purdue to the brink in one of the best matches in the series' recent history.
The Hoosiers dominated the third set to take a 2-1 advantage in the match, but Purdue would respond and grab the final two games to win 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 15-25, 25-15, 15-10) on Friday night.
Savannah Kjolhede (12 kills, .545) and Mady Saris (16 kills) had productive offensive nights while Paula Cerame provided a season's best 25 digs.
Purdue came into the night hitting .264 on the season but was held to just .192 on Friday evening. Eva Hudson, the Big Ten's leader in kills, was held to a .179 hitting percentage with eight errors on 56 swings.
IU will close out the weekend with a Sunday matinee match against Michigan State inside Wilkinson Hall with a first serve of 1:00 PM EST.
SET 1 (Indiana 26, Purdue 24)
• With Kenzie Daffinee at the service line, IU jumped out to a 4-1 run. Savannah Kjolhede had two kills within the first five points while Daffinee added a service ace.
• A pair of Purdue attack errors, followed by a kill from Candela Alonso-Corcelles, forced the Boilers into a timeout as IU took a 14-12 lead in the first.
• Facing set point at 23-24 the Hoosiers rattled off three-straight points to take the first set 26-24.
SET 2 (Purdue 25, Indiana 22)
• Mady Saris tallied home a kill following a pair of Eva Hudson attacking errors to allow the Hoosiers to open an 8-3 lead in the second set.
• Savannnah Kjolhede got the Hoosiers within one late in the set with a kill, but Purdue would close out the set 25-22 to level the match.
SET 3 (Indiana 25, Purdue 15)
• Kenzie Daffinee helped serve IU to a 4-0 lead to open the third set.
• The Hoosiers went on a 5-0 run to take control of the set with a 12-5 lead. During that five-point run, IU got kills from Melisa Ilter, Morgan Geddes and Mady Saris along with a service ace from Camryn Haworth.
• Savannah Kjolhede provided back-to-back kills as IU opened the gap to a 21-13 lead late in the fourth set.
• A service error from Purdue closed out a dominating 25-15 set victory for the Hoosiers.
SET 4 (Purdue 25, Indiana 15)
• Mady Saris took a ball off the chin that ricocheted back over the net and landed past Purdue's back row for a kill to take an 8-7 lead.
• Purdue responded on a 10-0 run to grab a commanding lead in the fourth.
• The Boilers would win the set 25-15 despite a late IU push to get as close as 22-15.
SET 5 (Purdue 15, Indiana 10)
• Following a pair of kills from Mady Saris, the Hoosiers used a Purdue attacking error to grab a 4-3 early in the fifth set.
• The Hoosiers closed the gap to 8-9 in the fifth off of a kill from Candela Alonso-Corcelles and Purdue attacking error.
• Purdue would win the set 15-10 to complete the late comeback and win the match.

• Morgan Geddes returned to the starting lineup following a two-game absence and tallied nine kills and three blocks.
• Savannah Kjolhede hit an outstanding .545 with 12 kills on 22 swings. She also provided five digs and five blocks.
