
Cerame’s 23 Digs, Saris’ 21 Kills Help Power Indiana Past Michigan State 3-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A fantastic day from Paula Cerame in the back row, paired with timely contributions from key pieces in the IU lineup saw the Indiana Volleyball team (10-10, 3-5) outlast Michigan State on Sunday afternoon in Wilkinson Hall.
In a match that showcased the Big Ten's depth, the Hoosiers bounced back from a first-set loss to win 21-25, 25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 15-10 for their third conference win of the season.
With 12 games remaining, IU has matched its overall and conference win total from a season ago.
Paula Cerame had 23 digs, 48 on the weekend, despite missing a majority of the fourth set against the Spartans. Mady Saris responded from a slow start to hit .308 on the day with 21 kills from 52 swings. Camryn Haworth had 46 assists to pair with 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.
IU moves into a tie for ninth in the Big Ten standings following the first eight contests. IU hits the road next weekend for a clash with Michigan and a rematch with Michigan State.
SET 1 (Michigan State 25, Indiana 21)
• A pair of kills from Savannah Kjolhede and Mady Saris within the first six points saw IU jump out to a 5-1 lead over the Spartans.
• Morgan Geddes got into the action with a pair of kills to push IU's lead out to 8-5 in the early stages of the first.
• After being tied at 13-all, Michigan State went on a 9-4 run to force IU into a timeout down 17-22.
• The Spartans would take the first set 25-21 after being down by four points early in the frame.
SET 2 (Indiana 25, Michigan State 23)
• Again, Indiana jumped out to an early lead after a series of Michigan State attacking errors pushed the Hoosier advantage to 5-3.
• Michigan State would respond with a 10-5 run and force IU into a timeout.
• A kill from the Spartans' Nil Okur out of the timeout was met with three-straight IU attacks to shrink the gap to just one point.
• Grae Gosnell provided a pair of crucial kills down the stretch before a Michigan State error closed out an IU 25-23 win in the second.

• Mady Saris had a run of three-straight kills as she found her groove in the third, putting IU up 10-7 and forcing Michigan State head coach Leah Johnson into a timeout.
• Out of the timeout, Camryn Haworth provided consecutive service aces to pin the Spartans back.
• The Hoosiers saw a lead as big as 18-11 shrink to nothing when Michigan State leveled the scoring at 22-all on a kill by Aliyah Moore.
• Back-to-back kills from Mady Saris in the third set finished off a 27-25 victory in a frame that saw her record nine kills.

• The closest set of the day, IU took a 20-18 lead following a kill from Ashley Zulauf.
