BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Riding a three-game winning streak, the Indiana Volleyball team (12-10, 5-5) prepares for a huge weekend in the Big Ten as the second half of conference play gets underway.
IU secured its first three-game winning streak in the Big Ten since 2014 with wins at No. 25 Michigan and Michigan State. The Hoosiers haven't four-in-a-row in the conference since 2008.
The Hoosiers will welcome Rutgers (7-15, 1-9) to Wilkinson Hall on Friday (7:00 PM) before heading to in-state rival Purdue (15-5, 6-4) on Sunday (1:00 PM) for the annual Monon Spike Game.
Steve Aird's squad sits seventh in the Big Ten at the halfway point and 5-5 in the Big Ten through 10 games for the first time since 2010.
Of the final 10 matches, six are projected to come against ranked opponents including a string of five straight starting with No. 12 Purdue on Sunday.
IU's win at No. 25 Michigan last weekend was the first over a ranked opponent since 2019 and the third ranked win under Aird.
Both weekend matches will be streamed through BTN+.
The Hoosiers:
• This marks the 48th season of Indiana Volleyball including the fifth under head coach Steve Aird.
• Mady Saris continues to have a productive sophomore campaign for IU. She owns 308 kills (No. 3 in Big Ten) and 3.71 kills per set (No. 5 in Big Ten).
• Camryn Haworth has proven to be one of the most versatile setters in all of the Big Ten. Her 749 assists rank No. 2 in the Big Ten and her 9.02 assists per set put her 6th in the conference. She's also No. 2 in the conference in aces (33).
• Morgan Geddes and Kaley Rammelsberg have returned to give IU a full-strength lineup for the first time in conference play. The pair combined for 22 kills in IU's win at Michigan State with each hitting over .300 in the victory.
• Paula Cerame has been in fine form in conference play for the Hoosiers as she tries to guide IU to a first winning season since 2018.
• Over the past four matches, IU has gone 3-1 and Cerame has provided 80 digs in those games including a season's best 25 against Purdue. She is No. 3 in the Big Ten (316) this season in the category.
• The Hoosiers sit 12-10 overall and 5-5 in conference, the first time they've been .500 at the halfway point since the 2010 season.
• With 10 matches to play in the season, IU has a chance to push for a first tournament bid since 2010. There will be at least six ranked matches left on the schedule and the opportunity to add big wins to a resume that already features wins over Texas A&M and No. 25 Michigan, a sweep of Michigan State and a road win at Maryland.
The Opposition:
Rutgers (7-15)
• The Scarlet Knights come into the weekend at 7-15 having lost their last eight matches. Their lone win of the conference season came in a reverse sweep of Michigan State during the first weekend of Big Ten play.
• Redshirt freshman outside hitter Alissa Kinkela leads the team in kills (207) and kills per set (2.69) this season. Freshman Taylor Humphrey has offered up 180 kills in her debut season.
• Libero Madyson Chitty owns 215 digs this year, just ahead of Lucy Malone's 166. Megan Vernon is the team's leader in blocks (70)
• IU won both matches against Rutgers last year and own a 15-1 record all-time against the Scarlet Knights.
No. 12 Purdue (15-5)
• IU prepares for its second match of the season against in-state rival Purdue after dropping a five-set heartbreaker two weeks ago in Wilkinson Hall.
• Sunday's match will be the annual Monon Spike Game. IU hasn't taken the trophy back to Bloomington in the previous 14 tries.
• Heading into the weekend, the Boilermakers have lost three-straight matches but remain No. 12 in the latest rankings.
• Eva Hudson continues to lead the conference in kills (337) and kills per set (4.62). She has won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors five times this year and Player of the Week three times.
• Purdue's Emma Ellis had 14 kills (.367) the last time the two teams met.
