Hoosiers Hit the Road in Search of Season Sweep over Iowa

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Volleyball team (9-8, 2-3) will look to get back to .500 in the Big Ten Conference in a Saturday afternoon match with Iowa.
After dispatching of Iowa in straight sets last week in Wilkinson Hall, the Hoosiers suffered back-to-back defeats to No. 6 Ohio State (1-3) and No. 7 Wisconsin (0-3).
Since last week's match in Bloomington, Iowa has suffered consecutive defeats to top-10 foes Minnesota and Purdue. The Hawkeyes are one of two teams (Maryland) in search of a conference win this year.
The Hoosiers swept Rutgers in 2021 and are looking to win both matches against the same conference opponent (Iowa) in consecutive years.
IU owns the advantage in the series history with a 42-39 record against the Hawkeyes. During his tenure at IU, Steve Aird has guided his teams to a 4-4 record in matches against Iowa.
First serve for Saturday's match will be at 3:00 PM EST and will be streamed on BTN+.
The Hoosiers:
• This is the 48th season of Indiana Volleyball and the fifth with head coach Steve Aird.
• The Hoosiers have played seven matches against teams inside the top-50 in RPI as of October 5th. IU came in at 94th in the initial release.
• Mady Saris continues her ascent up the charts in the Big Ten, proving to be one of the conference's most prolific attackers. She is third in the Big Ten in kills with 218 including a career high 20 at Maryland.
• Saris has been in double digits for kills in 14 matches this season including against No. 7 Wisconsin (10) on Wednesday.
• Paula Cerame is as steady as they come in the back row. She provided 18 digs in the win over Iowa last week. She is No. 4 in the Big Ten in digs (208).
• She has 986 digs for her career putting her within striking distance of 1,000 for her collegiate career.
• Camryn Haworth tallied 22 assists, 9 digs and 6 kills in the match against No. 7 Wisconsin on Wednesday. She's played every point this season.
• Savannah Kjolhede was efficient at the net against the Badgers, providing 8 kills on a .438 clip across 16 swings.
• Ashley Zulauf and Grae Gosnell, playing extensively in the absence of Kaley Rammelsberg and Morgan Geddes, combined for 10 kills on Wednesday evening against No. 7 Wisconsin.
The Opposition:

• Jim Barnes enters his first season at the helm of the Hawkeyes after previous stops including Baylor and Tulane. He led the Bears to the Sweet 16 in 2009.
• The Hawkeyes are 6-10 on the season and 0-5 in the Big Ten with one of those losses coming to IU just a week ago. Iowa took No. 5 Purdue to five sets on Wednesday evening and picked a set off of No. 7 Minnesota last Sunday.
• Libero Mari Hinkle leads the Big Ten in digs with 253 this season including a conference-leading 4.52 digs per set.
• Iowa brings a balanced offensive attack to the floor. Four different girls have 100+ kills including Toyosi Onabanjo, Delaney McSweeney, Amiya Jones and Michelle Urquhart.
• The Hawkeyes are looking for their first winning season since 2000 when they went 15-13 including 11-9 in the Big Ten.
• Iowa last beat IU on Nov. 5, 2021, in a 25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 25-23 victory on homecourt.
