Indiana Drops Five-Set Match to Iowa

CORALVILLE, Iowa – The Indiana Volleyball team (9-9, 2-4) fell in five sets to Iowa on Saturday afternoon in Xtream Area.
The Hoosiers held a 2-1 set lead but would lose the final two frames as Iowa rallied to a 25-27, 25-13, 22-25, 25-11, 15-11 victory over IU.
Without offensive weapons Kaley Rammelsberg and Morgan Geddes, IU was held to just a .152 hitting percentage on the afternoon.
Mady Saris (22) and Grae Gosnell (12) each had career highs in kills but the Hawkeyes' .314 hitting percentage provided a big challenge defensively.
The Hoosiers will return to Bloomington for a pair of matchups with Purdue (Friday, Oct. 14) and Michigan State (Sunday, Oct. 16) next weekend.
SET 1 (Indiana 27, Iowa 25)
• Mady Saris had three kills within the first 16 points as IU jumped out to a 9-7 lead.
• A perfectly placed ace in the backrow from Camryn Haworth provided a boost for the Hoosiers and a 14-13 lead midway through the second set.
• Three-straight points, featuring kills from Grae Gosnell and Mady Saris, aided IU back into a 20-19 lead, forcing an Iowa timeout.
• Down 22-24 and facing set point, IU went on a 4-1 run to win the set, closed out by a Grae Gosnell kill.
SET 2 (Iowa 25, Indiana 13)
• Following an IU timeout, Grae Gosnell provided a solo block to halt the Iowa run.
• Kenzie Daffinee recorded her first kill of the season as IU broke into double digit points in the second set.
• The Hawkeyes would go on to win the second set 25-13 and even the match.
SET 3 (Indiana 25, Iowa 22)
• The Hoosiers opened the third with three straight points (one kill, two aces) all via Mady Saris.
• Down 17-21, IU reeled off three straight points with two kills from Mady Saris and block assists from Savannah Kjolhede and Saris to close the Iowa lead to one.
• Savannah Kjolhede's solo block closed out a 5-0 run to end the 25-22 set win for the Hoosiers.
SET 4 (Iowa 25, Indiana 11)
• Savannah Kjolhede provided a late kill but Iowa would win the fourth set 25-11.
SET 5 (Iowa 15, Indiana 11)
• Back-to-back Iowa attack errors handed the Hoosiers a 9-8 lead in the fifth set.
• Iowa would close the set on a 7-2 run and take the match in five.
NOTABLES

• To go along with her 22 kills, Mady Saris also had three aces, three digs and four total blocks.

• Paula Cerame had 20 digs which pushed her over the 1,000-mark for her collegiate career.
