Hoosiers Welcome Butler, Xavier for Sunday Matches

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team will host Butler and Xavier on Sunday Feb. 20 at the IU Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers dropped a pair of matches to East Tennessee State and Middle Tennessee on Feb. 11/13. IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said despite the defeats the Hoosiers came back stronger in their second match of the weekend.

"Our intensity, energy and team chemistry were much better on Sunday, and we really never gave up," Wurtzman said. "Hopefully that can lead us into a good week of practice and good results in our upcoming matches."

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Butler comes in with a 3-5 overall record. Most recently Butler lot a 4-2 match against Ball State. The Bulldogs have wins this season over Lipscomb, Cleveland State and Illinois State. Xavier is 4-2 on the season. After dropping their first two matches of the season, Xavier has won their last four. Most recently the Musketeers beat IUPUI, 6-1.

THE CAPTAINS
The Hoosiers captains for the 2022 season are seniors Patrick Fletchall, Carson Haskins and Mac Rogers.
Fletchall has won 23-career singles matches in his three seasons in Bloomington while also appearing at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in the Hoosier lineup. The Carmel-native was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during the 2020-2021 season.
Haskins is among the most seasoned veterans returning to the IU team. He's notched 38-career singles victories and has spent time at most spots throughout the lineup. Like Fletchall, Haskins was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree last season.
Rogers is a Bloomington native and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during the 2020-2021 campaign.

TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
The Hoosiers are a combined 15-18 in dual match singles and 9-6 in dual match doubles through six matches. Luka Vukovic, Ilya Tiraspolsky and Vikash Singh each have three singles wins for the Hoosiers. In doubles Michael Andre and Luka Vukovic are 3-0 in dual matches.
