No. 15 IUSD Grabs 16 Final Placements in Day Three Prelims

MADISON, Wis. – Indiana women's swimming and diving earned 16 final berths during the Friday (Feb. 18) Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championship preliminary session inside Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
Adding the 200 Freestyle Relay, the Hoosiers will have 15 final swims during the evening session. IU diving will send two finalists in the 3-meter dive, as Anne Fowler and Tarrin Gilliland qualified for the evening session.
Freshman Anna Peplowski starred for IU in prelims, taking the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke championship finals, respectively.

NOTABLES
• Anna Peplowski's 1:44.37 to capture the No. 1 seed in the 200 Free championship final is her second-best time of the meet. On Wednesday, the freshman led off IU's silver-medal performance in the 800 Freestyle relay with a 1:43.53, her personal best mark.
• The freshman duo of Peplowski and Kacey McKenna will represent Indiana in the 100 Backstroke. Peplowski (52.43) out-touched McKenna (52.45) by just .02 seconds.
• Indiana entered four athletes in the 400 IM prelims, and all four will compete Friday evening. Senior Mackenzie Looze and freshman Mariah Denigan each earned championship final bids. Freshman Ching Hwee Gan just missed the top-eight and will be joined by sophomore Anna Freed in the consolation race. Freshman Cat Minic will compete in the C final.
• Indiana freshmen make up five of Indiana's championship finalists and nine of IU's finalists overall.
• Sophomores Anne Fowler and Tarrin Gilliland each qualified for their second final in two days. Fowler finished second in the prelim round with a 350.85.
