Last Time Out: Alex Wilson Invitational
The Hoosiers concluded the regular season this past weekend in South Bend, Ind. at the Alex Wilson Invitational. The men's distance medley relay squad consisting of Camden Marshall, Kenny Benton, Parker Raymond, and Ben Veatch combined for a time of 9:22.78 to come in third and captured a Big Ten and program record. Jake Gebhardt won the mile in a personal best time of 4:03.97. Maddy Pollard won the shot put while Sean Mockler rounded out the trio of winners with his win in the weight throw. Pollard heaved a mark of 17.07m (58' 3.75") and Mockler saw a personal record throw of 21.26m (69' 9"). Maria Anderson and Shynae Deas picked up personal bests in the 800m with Anderson securing a time of 2:07.70 while Deas went 2:09.72.
Stamping the Record Book
As the indoor season progresses, Hoosiers have made their mark on the record book in their respective events. At the Alex Wilson Invitational, the men's distance medley relay team set a new program record of 9:22.78 while the women's squad is No. 5 all-time after going 11:02.64. Maria Anderson picked up a time of 2:07.70 in the 800m which is the ninth best time in IU history. Sean Mockler moved up to No. 2 on the all-time list with a heave of 21.26m (69' 9").
Hustlin' Hoosiers
Over the weekend, the men's distance medley relay squad clocked a new program record with their time of 9:22.78 at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Their time is also a Big Ten record and they were tabbed with Big Ten Track Athlete of the week honors. Camden Marshall led it off with a 2:54.3 1200m which was followed by Kenny Benton's 46.0 400m leg. Parker Raymond ran the 800m where he picked up a time of 1:48.6. Ben Veatch anchored in an impressive 3:53.95 mile. The quartet holds the fastest time in the Big Ten and is No. 6 so far this season in the NCAA.
Defend the Title
Three Hoosiers return to SPIRE this weekend to defend their Big Ten individual championships from a year ago. Rikkoi Brathwaite looks to win gold again in the 60m while Ben Veatch will attempt the distance double of the 3000m and 5000m. Nathan Stone will go for his third Big Ten Title in the pole vault.
Great Lakes, Great Rankings
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their week five regional rankings ahead of conference championship weekend.
The Indiana men currently sit in third behind Big Ten foes Ohio State and Wisconsin. Michigan and Notre Dame men round out the top-5 in fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the women's side, the Hoosiers are No. 4. Wisconsin (1), Michigan (2), and Ohio State (3) are the top three while Notre Dame is No. 5.
