Solid First Day For The Hoosiers At Big Ten Indoor Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Indiana Track & Field kicked off the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. The Hoosiers saw 12 garner points in their respective events and nine other advance to Saturday finals.
KEY MOMENTS
• Jenna Barker, Bailey Hertenstein, and Hannah Stoffel were the first to advance to a final as they will compete in the mile tomorrow afternoon. Stoffel clocked a personal best of 4:42.09 while Hertenstein went 4:43.88. Barker rounded out the trio with a season best of 4:45.02.
• On the men's side, Ben Veatch is headed to the final with the fastest time of 3:58.09. His time is a new personal best and Big Ten Championships record.
• Kenny Benton is moving on to the final of the men's 400m after collecting a personal record time of 46.95. He heads into the final race with the fifth best time. Benton will also compete in the final of the 200m, clocking a time of 21.14 in the prelims.
• Both Rikkoi Brathwaite and Antonio Laidler will represent the Hoosiers in the 60m final. Brathwaite secured a time of 6.67 while Laidler saw a season best time of 6.74.
• Running in his first conference meet, Camden Marshall clocked a time of 1:50.50 in the prelims of the 800m to advance to the final.
• Maria Anderson will appear in the 600m final after locking in a time of 1:31.16 in the prelim.
• Sarah Schmitt picked up a personal record of 8:14.70 in the 3000m. Schmitt's time was good enough for sixth and three points.
• In the men's race, Arjun Jha crossed fifth and Jake Gebhardt finished in eighth. Jha saw a time of 8:04.33 while Gebhardt secured a time of 8:07.68.
• Nick Couyoumjian, Shaton Vaughn, Parker Raymond, and Veatch went 9:35.92 in the men's distance medley relay to take home the silver medal.
• Stoffel, Morgan Snow, Kelly Mindak, and Hertenstein combined for a time of 11:16.27 in the distance medley relay. The quartet placed fourth.
• Jayden Ulrich and Maddy Pollard combined for eight points for the Hoosiers in the shot put on Friday. Ulrich took fourth with a put of 16.70m (54' 9.5") and Pollard came in sixth with a heave of 16.37m (53' 8.5").
• Nathan Stone took bonze in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.40m while Ryan Lipe came in fifth and cleared a height of 5.20m (17' 0.75"). The duo collected 10 points to go towards the team total.
• Anna Watson collected two points for the Indiana women in the pole vault. Watson cleared a height of 4.12m (13' 6.25") to place seventh.
• Paola Fernandez-Sola captured a new indoor personal best of 6.15m (20' 2.25") in the long jump to place fifth and capture four points.
• JaiQuan Earls rounded out the night in the men's long jump where he finished in seventh and saw a jump of 7.27m (23' 10.25").
NOTABLES
• Ben Veatch moved up to No. 5 on the IU all-time list in the mile with his blistering time of 3:58.09.
• Paola Fernandez-Sola captured a spot in the Indiana record book with her leap of 6.15m (20' 2.25") in the long jump. She is now No. 8 all-time.
• Friday's 60m prelim was Antonio Laidler's first career event at the conference meet.
• Elizabeth Stanhope captured a personal record time of 2:08.23 in the prelims of the 800m. She finished in 11th overall.
• Cooper Williams saw a season best in the 800m prelim with a time of 1:51.57.
• Austin Haskett ran a season best in the mile with a time of 4:09.54. Haskett placed 17th overall in the prelims.
• Running in the unseeded 3000m, Alyssa Skorge had a personal record time of 9:42.01. Ana Barrott also set a season best in the event with a time of 9:54.99.
• Taylor Jarosinski competed in her first Big Ten Championship meet where she cleared a height of 3.72m (12' 25") in the pole vault.
• Freshman Jayden Ulrich saw competition for the first time at Big Ten Championships in the shot put.
• Adam Strouf saw his first conference championship shot put where he collected a mark of 17.91m (58' 9.25").

The Hoosiers will complete the final day of the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, February 26. The first event is slated for 11 a.m. The second day of the championships will stream live on B1G+.
