Hoosiers Rally for 4-3 Victory Against Yale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On the scoreboard Yale had a 3-0 lead and the Hoosiers were on the brink. The Indiana women's tennis team showed resiliency and clawed back for a 4-3 win on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
Lexi Kubas would clinch the match for the Hoosiers at the end, but several Indiana players had to show their fight to come together for the victory.
Indiana lost the doubles point and the first two singles matches to go down 3-0 in the match.
Mila Mejic gave Indiana their first singles win. Although Mejic lost her first set 6-0, the came back to win the next two, 6-3, 6-3.
Lara Schneider had to go to a tiebreak to win her first set, but stormed back to win the second set 6-1 to put the Hoosiers within reach at 3-2.
Alexandra Staiculescu dropped her first set, but that did not deter the upperclassmen as she won her next two sets to tie the team score, 3-3.
Then it was Kubas, who won her first set, but dropped a close second set 7-5 to set up one final set for her match and for the team match.
With the support of the crowd and her teammates standing close by, Kubas outlasted her opponent for a 6-2 third set win and her teammates surrounded her in celebration.
The Hoosiers continue play on Sunday Feb. 6 when they host Marquette at 2:30 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
