Hoosiers Drop 4-3 Match to Cincinnati, Cruise to 7-0 Victory over Eastern Illinois

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team split a pair of matches with a 4-3 loss to Cincinnati and a 7-0 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.

The Hoosiers took on the Cincinnati Bearcats for their first game of the day. Starting in the double's competition, the Hoosiers were quickly down a set, losing at No. 3 1-6. Looking to bounce back in No. 2 and No. 1, the Hoosiers almost achieved a comeback at both courts, but fell short when Cincinnati at No. 2 won the set 6-4.

Strong performances from Lara Schneider and Rose Hu both won their first set 6-1. Schneider went on to win her match after Cincinnati's, Guna retired the match due to injury.

Alexandra Staiculescu won her match with an impressive victory at 6-3, 6-1 and tied the match for the Hoosiers at 2-2.

Rose Hu finished her match strongly, winning 6-1, 6-3.

It all came down to Mila Mejic who needed to win her last set to win the match for the Hoosiers. Mejic won her first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-6) after being down 1-3. Going to the second set, it went to another tiebreaker where Cincinnati won 7-2. The third and final set was decided in a 6-4 victory for Cincinnati.

The Hoosiers got out of the gate with a dominant showing on No. 1 and No. 3 against EIU, winning both sets 6-1 to give the Hoosiers the doubles point.

The Hoosiers continued their hot start, winning the first set in all six singles matches.

Sayda Hernandez continued her hot start winning both sets 6-0 on No. 6 to give the Hoosiers their second point of the match.

Rose Hu followed up dominating her opponent to also win both sets 6-0 on No. 5, giving the Hoosiers their third point of the match

Mila Mejic gave the Hoosiers the clinching point with a win on No. 4, 6-1, 6-2 to give the Hoosiers a win against Eastern Illinois.
