
Big Ten Tournament Next for Men’s Tennis

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team will travel to Madison, Wis., as they open play in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday. The Hoosiers will be the No. 10 seed and take on No. 7 seed Penn State.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers ended the regular season with defeats against Illinois 4-3 and Northwestern 4-0. Against Illinois the Hoosiers took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to go up 1-0. The Hoosiers went down 3-1 but came back with Michael Andre and Ilya Tiraspolsky winning to even the match at 3-3.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Penn State comes into the tournament with a 13-13 overall record and 3-6 mark in Big Ten matches. The Nittany Lions edged the Hoosiers 4-3 back on April 3 in Bloomington. Penn State finished the last weekend of the regular season with defeats against No. 73 Nebraska (4-1) and No. 63 Wisconsin (4-0).
SENIOR VIKASH SINGH
The Hoosiers honored senior Vikash Singh April 17 on senior day. Singh joined the Hoosiers in January of the 2018-19 season and won 11 singles matches that season including a 7-3 mark against Big Ten opponents. Singh won his singles match to propel the Hoosiers to a win over No. 32 Texas Tech. In his sophomore season he went 8-2 in dual match singles and won singles matches to help the Hoosiers top No. 25 Dartmouth and Notre Dame.
Vikash, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree will graduate in December of 2022 with degrees in Econ Consulting and Finance and a Business Analytics co-major.
THE CAPTAINS
The Hoosiers captains for the 2022 season are seniors Patrick Fletchall, Carson Haskins and Mac Rogers.
Fletchall has won 33-career singles matches in his three seasons in Bloomington while also appearing at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in the Hoosier lineup. The Carmel-native was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during the 2020-2021 season.
Haskins is among the most seasoned veterans returning to the IU team. He's notched 45-career singles victories and has spent time at most spots throughout the lineup. Like Fletchall, Haskins was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree last season.
Rogers is a Bloomington native and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during the 2020-2021 campaign.
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
Patrick Fletchall has emerged for the Hoosiers as a dependable threat with a 4-3 record in Big Ten singles this season. Fletchall has 14 singles wins on the season with 10 of them coming in dual matches. The Hoosiers most reliable pair in doubles this season has been Michael Andre and Luka Vukovic with a 10-3 mark in dual matches, including 5-1 in Big Ten dual matches.
