Once a Hoosier, Always a Hoosier
On Tuesday night, Head Coach Ron Helmer announced his plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. Helmer's retirement will bring an end to a coaching career that has spanned more than 50 years and is littered with national champions, Olympic gold medalists, and enormous team accomplishments. His Hoosier student-athletes placed in the top three in individual events at NCAA Championships 22 times, in the top five 40 times, and captured 221 All-America honors.
Looking at East Prelims
On May 26-29 Indiana will play host to the 2022 East Preliminary Round. To qualify for the prelims, an individual must be in the top-48 of their respective events. On the relay side, a quartet must be in the top-32 of their relay event.
The Hoosiers currently have 36 qualified for the prelims. Highlighting the field are a group of six who are in the top-10 of their events. Ben Veatch is second in the 5000m while Nathan Stone is sixth in the pole vault. Ryan Lipe is also in the top-10 in the pole vault as he is tied for ninth. Sean Mockler is also ninth but in the hammer. In the women's field, Bailey Hertenstein is third in the 1500m and fifth in the 5000m. Jayden Ulrich moved up to 10th in the discus to complete the field.
