
Indiana Opens Home Slate Against Ball State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's soccer team (0-0-2) will open the home slate of the program's 30th season with an in-state matchup against Ball State (0-1-1) on Aug. 25 at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Jerry Yeagley Field in Bloomington. First kick between the Hoosiers and Cardinals is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
The match will be streamed on BTN+ with Samantha Condra (PxP) and Austin Platt (Analyst) on the call. Anna Winterhalder will handle the sideline reporting duties. Live stats of the match can be tracked on IUHoosiers.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
• The Ball State Cardinals, led by fourth-year head coach Josh Rife, enter the matchup off a scoreless opening weekend. BSU fell to the University of Kentucky (3-0) on the road before earning a 0-0 draw at Queens in Charlotte.
• Rife played two seasons for the Indiana men's soccer program under legendary head coach Jerry Yeagley. During his career, IU went to back-to-back College Cups and the 2001 Big Ten Conference title. His teams combined for 34-11-1.
• Fifth-year midfielder Jenna Dombrowski is the team's active leader in career goals (6), career assists (5), career points (17) and career shots on goal (33). She has started 40-of-56 career matches played.
• Sophomore forward Lexi Fraley is coming off a season in which she was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team. The Harrison, Ind., native scored four goals in 16 appearances in her debut season.
• Sophomore Bethany Moser tends goal for the Cardinals and has surrendered three tallies (1.53 goals against average) in 176 minutes in net. Moser has made 11 saves (0.786 save percentage) on the 28 shots faced.
SERIES HISTORY
• The two sides have met three times on the pitch with the series split evenly, 1-1-1. All three of the previous matchups have been contested in Bloomington.
• Ball State shutout Indiana (1-0) to take the first match of the series back on Sept. 5, 2004 before IU exacted revenge with a 2-1 result on Sept. 16, 2006. In the most recent addition of the in-state rivalry, the teams were all square at 1-1 after 110 minutes of play.
• IU holds a record of 19-3-2 all time against teams currently in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Hoosiers have converted three-straight positive results against the conference dating back to a 4-0 win over Western Michigan on Aug. 27, 2017.

• Senior defender Karlee Luker made her season debut with a first-half substitution for her 20th-career appearance for Indiana. Sophomore defender Camille Hamm recorded her 15th career start in 20 appearances. Redshirt freshman midfielder Ava Akeel made her first career appearance.

• Gerstenberg, a member of the 2021 Big Ten All-Freshman Team, tied the Indiana program record with nine shutouts in her rookie campaign. She has posted a 9-3-6 record across 1,636 minutes in 18 starts. The Birkenwerder, Germany, native recorded 48 saves in 56 chances (0.857 save percentage).
• Through 18 career starts, Gerstenberg has posted 11 shutouts, including back-to-back shutouts to open the 2022 season. She holds a career goals against average of 0.45, which ranks tops in program history. Indiana has conceded one or fewer goals in 17-of-18 career starts made by Gerstenberg.
• She has competed for both the U17 and U19 German National Teams and was among those invited to camp prior to the 2022 FIFA U20 World Cup.
