BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After jumping out to a 2-1 start following the first weekend of play, the Indiana Volleyball team will take to the road for the first time this season.
A three-game set in Corpus Christi, Texas awaits Steve Aird and the Hoosiers this weekend with matchups against SMU, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-CC on the docket.
This will be the first match with all three programs in the history of IU Volleyball and the first of five matches against schools from the Lone Star State this year.
A weekend sweep would ensure a second-straight season that the Hoosiers started 5-1.
"Excited to get on the road," Aird said. "Obviously the next month we're on the road so it's going to be a long four weeks where we're going to be tested by some good teams."
Breaking Down the Hoosiers
Despite being down a few players due to injury on the opening weekend, the Hoosiers found production at all levels to produce a 2-1 start to the season.
Sophomore setter Camryn Haworth was busy all weekend, providing a huge impact on both the offensive and defensive fronts.
She served up double-doubles in IU's first two games including 33 assists and 22 digs against Indiana State and 26 assists and 11 digs against Chicago State.
On the weekend, Haworth provided 86 assists, 37 digs, 12 kills, 2 solo blocks and 6 service aces. After an outstanding freshman season, Haworth has shown her value as a setter and ability to be one of the most versatile athletes in all the Big Ten.
Sophomore outside hitter Mady Saris joined her fellow classmate with a productive weekend offensively for the Hoosiers.
Saris had at least eight kills in all three matches including 13 against Indiana State while also matching her career high against Jacksonville State with 18.
The Canadian took 108 swings on the weekend, picking up a large part of the offensive responsibility over the course of the three matches.
Junior middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede was extremely consistent for the Hoosiers at the Indiana Invitational, hitting .500 with 20 kills across three matches.
The highlight of her weekend came in the win over Chicago State where she hit an outstanding .727 with 8 kills on 11 attempts while also adding a couple of blocks.
The Colleyville, Texas native has been a crucial part of the IU lineup since her arrival in Bloomington and pairs nicely with fellow middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg in the front row.
