BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a week off, the Indiana Cross Country teams will be back on the course this weekend on the campus of Lehigh University for the Paul Short Invite.
Friday's proceedings will see the men race an 8K at 11:00 AM with the women to race a 6K at 11:45 AM.
The Hoosiers are set to bring 23 athletes (12 women, 11 men) this weekend in one of the final tune-ups before the postseason begins in late-October.
On the men's side, Jake Gebhardt has jumped out to a prolific start this season. He won Big Ten Men's Athlete of the Week honors following his first race of the year.
He ran 24:04.6 at the Coaching Tree Invitational, a near 30-second personal best in the 8K while finishing 11th individually in a talented field of runners.
Abe Eckman, just two races into his collegiate career, has continued to progress nicely as he adjusts to running in the Big Ten.
He was IU's fourth-best finisher at the Coaching Tree Invitational after crossing the line in 25:04.2.
IU's five-best finishers from the Coaching Tree Invitational (Gebhardt, Gabriel Sanchez, Keelan Grant, Eckman and Camden Marshall) will all run again this weekend.
On the women's side, Sarah Schmitt helps lead a team that is receiving votes in the latest edition of the USTFCCCA XC Ratings Index.
She was IU's top finisher at the Coaching Tree Invitational with a personal best of 20:29.4. She was followed by Mariah Wehrle, Maddie Dalton and Phoebe Bates who all finished inside the top-25.
Nine different women ran personal bests just two weeks ago on the home course and all 12 of IU's top finishers will race again this weekend.
