
Indiana Places Seventh in Debut Tournament of 2022-23

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team finished seventh against a loaded field at the Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course on Monday. The Hoosiers compiled a team score of 838 (281-273-284; -2) over the two-day, 54-hole competition.
Ninth-ranked Florida shot an 819 (270-273-276; -21) to take the team crown, while No. 44 fired an 820 (277-275-268; -20) to take runner-up honors.

• Indiana toppled three schools in the top-50 of the 2021-22 final GolfStat rankings, including No. 29 Kansas (t-8th), No. 46 Michigan State (t-8th) and No. 48 Utah (13th).
• Junior Drew Salyers turned in his second scorecard of 67 (-3) on the weekend with a team-high five birdie conversions. The Howard, Ohio, native finished tied for ninth overall after shooting a 205 (67-71-67; -5).
• The tournament marked the seventh of his career in which Salyers finished inside the top-10 in the individual ranks. He was also the highest finisher among Big Ten golfers in the event.
• Fifth-year senior Mitch Davis finished the tournament at 208 (71-66-71; -2) after book-ending his event with a 71 (+1). He placed t-17th overall after compiling three birdies in the final round.
• Senior Noah Gillard finished the weekend with a round of 74 (+4) with a pair of birdies. He tied for 32nd overall with a three-round score of 211 (71-66-74; +1).
• Graduate transfer Thomas Hursey shot a 219 (72-70-77; +9) to finish 62nd in his debut event with the Cream and Crimson.
• Senior Eric Berggren tapped in a pair of birdies on his final round of 72 (+2). He finished the tournament tied for 68th at 222 (72-78-72; +12).
