Indiana Resumes Track and Field Season at Commodore Challenge

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Following the winter break, the Indiana Track and Field teams will be back in action at the Commodore Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. on the campus of Vanderbilt.
Including this weekend's meet, IU will compete over eight of the next nine weekends, culminating with the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 10th and 11th. Following the final indoor meet of the year, the outdoor season will pick up two weeks later.
57 athletes will compete across two days for the Hoosiers this weekend with 37 scheduled to participate in at least two individual events.
Action from Vanderbilt will begin on Friday afternoon and run through the night. Saturday's competition will last all day.
Sprints and Hurdles:
• IU's sprinters will jump right into the heart of action this weekend with athletes competing in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 300 meters, 400 meters and the 60 hurdles.
• Five men will run the 60 meters including Antonio Laidler and Christopher Grant. Alyssa Robinson will make her season debut in the event alongside Nile Brown on the women's side.
• Trelee Banks-Rose, Ray Brodie and Laidler will all double back in the 200 meters as well for the Hoosiers.
• John Colquitt, Shaton Vaughn, Hope Purcell and Olivia Gee will comprise IU's athletes in the 60 hurdles. In his collegiate debut at the Hoosier Open, Colquitt won both his heat and the final in the event.
• Micah Camble, Jaylen Grimes and David Olowookere are all scheduled to run in the 300 meters on Friday before heading into the 400 meters on Saturday. Lauren Thomas and Kaylee Lane will do the same on the women's side and will be joined by Maria Anderson in the quarter mile.
• The Hoosiers will send two entries into the men's and women's 4x400 relays comprised of IU's sprints and mid-distance runners.
Jumps:
• Paola Fernandez-Sola, Kelly Moran, Kynton Grays, Alex Smith and Robert Blue will comprise a strong contingent of Hoosiers in the Long Jump on Friday. Blue, Moran and Mahogany Jenkins will also Triple Jump.
• Taylor Schoonveld, Hope Purcell, Jenkins and Grayson Rolen will be the first to compete on Friday afternoon when the High Jump competition begins.
Throws:
• Noah Koch, Adam Strouf, Makayla Hunter and Jayden Ulrich will all double in the Weight Throw and Shot Put this weekend. Sean Mockler will enter in the Weight Throw as well.
• At the Hoosier Open, both Koch and Hunter entered the program's all-time top-10 list in the Weight Throw and will look to improve on those marks this weekend.
Pole Vault:
• Five vaulters will head to Nashville this weekend including Nathan Stone and Jessica Mercier. Tyler Carrel, Riley Johnston and Taylor Jarosinski round out an impressive group of athletes.
• The men will compete Friday afternoon with the women hitting the runway on Saturday morning.
Distance and Mid-Distance:
• A heavy contingent of runners will make their way to Nashville for their first big race of the year.
• Between the men and women, 14 athletes will run the mile for the Hoosiers including Camden Marshall, Maddie Dalton, Jake Gebhardt and Jenna Barker. All four athletes will double in the 800 meters as well.
• Marshall, the defending Big Ten Indoor Champion at 800 meters and the school record at 1000 meters has been in fine form this season and will look to parlay that into an outstanding 2023 campaign.
• Tristan Forsythe, Skylar Stidam, Abe Eckman, Mikaela Ramirez and Tori Schmidt will all run a 3K this weekend.
