Nathan Stone, Robert Blue Claim Event Titles on Opening Day of Commodore Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Indiana Track and Field teams returned to action on Friday night for the first day of the Commodore Challenge.
A pair of event titles and a plethora of personal bests welcomed the Hoosiers back to competition in the new year.
Mahogany Jenkins started the new year off by clearing 1.77m/5-9.75 in the High Jump in a tie for second place. Hope Purcell was over the bar at 1.69m/5-6.5 with Taylor Schoonveld clear at 1.60m/5-3.
The Hoosiers dominated the Men's Long Jump. Robert Blue (7.60m/24-11.25) and Alex Smith (7.49m/24-7) each set personal bests to finish first and second with Kynton Grays finishing in fifth at 6.95m/22-9.75.
Noah Koch was out over 20 meters for the second-straight meet in the Weight Throw, finishing with a best throw of 20.02m/65-8.25 to finish second in the event.
Adam Strouf set a personal best in the Weight Throw with a mark of 18.03m/59-2
The Hoosiers placed two in the top-five of the Men's 200 meters including Antonio Laidler who raced to a mark of 21.50 to finish in second place. Trelee Banks-Rose finished fourth with an indoor personal best of 21.71.
Nathan Stone continued his hot start to the season, winning the Pole Vault at the Commodore Challenge with a clearance at 5.25m/17-2.75.
After clearing at 5.25m, Stone went for three attempts at 5.43m/18-9.75 to better his season's best of 5.40m/17-8.5 but couldn't get over the bar.
Tyler Carrel (5.10m/16-8.75) and Riley Johnston (4.95m/16-2.75) also finished in the top five of the Pole Vault on Friday evening.
Paola Fernandez-Sola jumped out to a season's best of 6.05m/19-10.25 to finish second in the Long Jump. She hit a mark of 5.76m on her opening jump before getting out to 6.05m on her fifth attempt of the evening.
IU took places four, five and six in the women's 600 meters, led by Maddie Russin's personal best time of 1:34.36.
Alyssa Robinson clocked a 38.11 to finish second in the 300 meters, just .03 seconds off her lifetime best set at the Hoosier Open in December.
David Olowookere closed the night by running 34.48 in the 300 meters, the eighth-best mark in program history at that distance.
The Hoosiers return to close out the Commodore Challenge on Saturday, beginning with Noah Koch and Adam Strouf in the Shot Put at 12:00 PM EST.
